Photoperiod First time DWC grow - big bazooka and the future #1

Hello guys,

this is my first time in DWC. I’ve had loads of experience in growing in auto pots but now I fancy something different. Earlier this year I attempted NFT but after 5 consecutive crops failing I’ve decided to throw in the towel on that method and jump into DWC. Fingers and toes crossed that I have better success with this. The purpose of this journal is to reach out to the collective knowledge of this site and to learn off your guys as I get on with this grow.

Equipment:

I’ll be running six buckets over two 1.2 x 1.2 tents. The contents of which are:

6 33l dwc buckets
6 air pumps (I believe they are ac30?!?)
600hps in one tent
315 cmh in the other
6 inch carbon filter in the 600 tent
4 inch in the 315 tent.
I also have a spare 315 I will to use veg then ones in the 600 tent.

strains are big bazooka and the future #1. Both are photo periods.

Nutes:

canna vega
Canna Flores
Plant magic - calmag
Canna pk 13/14
Big Bud
H202
I’ll have pythoff at hand too should I need it. Hopefully I won’t.

My personal opinion:

Throw out the H2o2 Do not use it in DWC.
I don't like Pythoff.................... Use Botanicare HydroGuard
And really do not use Pythoff and H2o2!

Wow, that’s interesting stuff man! You know what, I’m gonna follow your method. I’ve had it in my head to use a sterile setup but that’s got me nowhere when using in NFT. I’ll switch it up to your game for DWC. Thanks a lot for this. Very helpful.

my seedling have rooted out of their 1inch rockwool cubes but unlike yourself i have transplanted them into 4inch cubes. I plan on hand watering these until rooter through (much like in NFT) then I’ll put them into the buckets and top feed until they’re out of the net. I’ll have to hand feed them tho as I can’t afford to buy drippers atm.

Put the cubes in the net pots and install over the DWC buckets all set up. The roots will bust out of the 4" cubes raring to go in just a couple of days. Be ready so the roots are not slowed down by you! The rate of growth in DWC still amazes me.

will hand watering twice a day be enough to start with? As I’m in work most of the day so I’m thinking before I leave and then when I come home

Heft them when they weigh about half of when wet it is time to fertigate again. Do not over water they hold a lot more than you think.

Little update here:

the seedling were put into the system two days ago with a very mild nute solution. Ec 0.9, ph 5.8. Yesterday I checked and ec has remained the same but the Ph had risen to 6.3. Not a huge jump in ph but I adjusted it back down with water and ph Down. Later today I’ll upload some pics along with today’s progress.

Here they are under the 315 cmh. I squeezed them all into one tent to save on energy. Once they take off they’ll be split into their respective tents.

me being the numb nuts that I am forgot to wash out the clay pebbles before setting up the system so now there’s residue off them on the insides of the buckets. I’m not too concerned about this atm but I will thoroughly clean them out in a few days time. The first True baby leaves have shown. I’ll upload close up pics tomorrow

The girls are coming along nicely. All have true leaves and are starting to take shape. The net pots they’re in a very big so I’m guessing it’ll be another 5-7 days before the roots are out of the net and then the action really starts! I’m obviously still too feeding and I completed a res change today. All measuring in at PH 5.7, EC 0.7.

I’m feeding with a light dose of the nutrients I talked about at the start of this thread but I’ve decided to swap over to the Remo line. I’ve been curious about this line of bites for a while and after talking to the guy in my hydro shop I decided to buy complete set. At least now I’ll be using one manufacturers line instead mixing and matching.
