Hello all,

I've just recently harvested my first grow (RQS Royal Dwarf) and am now in the curing process but I need some guidance. After I cut the plant, I just hung the whole thing in a box, in a dark, cool closet for four days. The RH (southern US, real cold temps) is <20%. Based on what I've read thus far from other forums, the buds and stems felt right. I trimmed her up, placed her in a good 'ol mason jar then into my kitchen pantry (cool and dark). I burped her 2-3 times a day and after the 4th day, started to notice a sour-like smell coming from the jar. I didn't think too much of it until last night (day 7 in the jar), I burped her, and the sourness was so profound that I immediately took her out of the jar. The buds felt a little moist so I put her on a plate, back into the pantry and started doing research.

Based on what I've read, the buds were apparently not dry enough. I did examine her closely and there doesn't appear to be any sign of mold or mildew. Her odor has now gone from sour-like to more of a grassy tone.

Here's my dilemma: I ordered a Boveda 62% pak to put into the jar (haven't done yet...it just arrived in the post yesterday). A lot of people have raved about this product but after reading a bit more it appears they are best for long time storage. In my home, the temp is about 70f (21c) with a RH of 16-20% (yeah, dry). Once my bud is dry enough to put back into the jar, do I use the Boveda pak?

I went wrong every way possible with my first grow and she still produced some lovely bud. I so want to end this on a good note with proper curing. Any suggestions? As usual, any and all advice is most welcome.

Thanks!

Once you get a full cure and your where you want your buds to be there is no need to have humidity paks in the jars. They should stay slightly moist for a very long time as long as you keep them sealed in the jars.

well bend your stalk in a few areas like a few stems and bend them n see if they snap if they do or almost snaps on the dryish side clip the buds off all individual like n stuff n stick them in a jar with one or two packs then seal it up in stick it in the dark n a cool area 70F is fine.and open the jar for the first week maybe three times total in a week and give a good whiff n seal it back up.and over the course if it was flushed n all that itll sweeten up over a cpl weeks.then you take it back out after a cpl weeks n give it another good whiff then seal it back up n put it away as long as ya can n smoke on it some n it should have mostly all fallen off at that point for the most part anyways.does that help? :d5: :Sharing One:

making sure a 5 day dry before the stem actually snaps is the key to whatcha be looking for imo.especially with colder weather.

Edit:lmfao everytime lol :Sharing One:

Lefty,

thanks for your pm. I think from what you have said, you are confusing drying verses curing.

You need to dry the trimmed buds for at least a week before you put them into jars. Or am I missing the point ?

I am here to help, but have you mixed up the two processes or have I got the wrong end of the stick ?

eP.

oh I just find it funny when two ppl answer the same thread at the same time mostly ..dunno why Ive always found that funny lol!!:Sharing One:

Nammy dude did ya see that Alien thing i stuck in yer thread man?you might like it!!

EP,
My main question is: Once the buds are dried and ready to go back into the jar, do I toss in the Boveda 62% humidipak for the rest of the cure or do I leave it out?

Thanks!

:)

Im in my first cure too but i use the bovida packs to gauge the humidity in the jars. You will be able to tell if they are absorbing water or drying out and once i noticed they felt "normal" for a couple days i removed them and just left the jar sealed
