New Grower First Grow, South Texas: WOS Pakistan Ryder/Strawberry Blue

Well, the yellowing has stopped progressing from what it seems like. I do not know if it is due to the soil drying out or if it is from the 2 foliar feedings I gave them. The buds on the PR are packing on weight and is causing the it to lean slightly, tricombs developing everywhere. Pretty cool stuff. The Strawberry Blue is finally starting to fill out and grow into a cute little bush. LMK how they look fellas!

Don't mind the other plants, those are my other veggies and fruits.

Thanks for looking!

I wouldn't do anything till you get your meter and can check your pH first. From the pictures it does look like a P deficiency and at this stage in the plant's growth that would almost certainly be caused by pH lockout.

You did the right thing by mixing your soil ahead of time. The only thing missing was knowing it's pH.

My buddy came over today with 4 different soil pH meters. They all tested between 7.3 and 7.5 Plus my 2 "crap" meters also tested in at 7.3. I can be fairly sure thay all 6 meters are not wrong.

The pH pen for liquid still hasnt arrived so I dont know what the water pH is but the soil pH seems to be a tad too high.

Wow, me mentioning that I suspected there was a PH problem really caused a bit of a widespread/long conversation. Glad to see you could work out your problems.
When we learn we grow, literally.

Happy Gardening!

Well, here's a slight update.

The entire time I though I had a pH lockout causing my funky yellow leaves.....well after getting a solid pH pen and finding out that I was right where I needed to be, I realized the plants were STARVING!

This morning, I said, F it and I fed (pH'd the mix before feeding of course) all my plants with my high N and high P Peruvian Seabird Guano. After that I went to take a long needed nap.

I came back out about 4 hours laters and all my yellow leaves were going green again!!! 4 freaking hours!!! Wow, I didnt expect it to happen so fast!

The pics still may show a slight yellow but keep in mind, the leaves were banana yellow 4 hours before these pics were taken!!

Anyway, these plants are nothing compared to all the expert growers on these boards but I am learning as I go along...slowly, but surely! Enough yap yap, here are some pics!

Pakistan Ryder #1 aka "my learning plant" @ day 36 from seed....still hoping for at least an 8th from this dwarf, lol.

Pakistan Ryder #2 aka "let's try this again" @ day 18 from seed. I am trying my hand at some LST with this plant. Also, this plant is in my fully organic soil a lot of the members on another forum helped me make (thanks!). The PR/SB #1 are in straight bagged Lady Bug Vortex soil...maybe thats why they are starving. Looking good so far.

StrawberryBlue #1 @ day 33 (severely stunted due to lack of N & P :(, hopefully she bounces back now that I know what she wants. And yes, I know she is overwatered, oops.)

StrawberryBlue #2 @ day 2 (severely stunted/yellow due to lack of N :(, I will be transplanting this baby next weekend in a 15 gallon pot.)

But wait! There's more! Introducing the newest addition to the family, World of Seeds Kilimanjaro @ day 1. She is apparently a 100% Landrace Sativa from deep in the Kenyan jungles!! I really hope I don't F this one up, she is going into a 15 gallon container and will hopefully be grown out into a tree one day!!

I hope I am doing ok, LMK guys!!
As always, thanks for stopping by,

Looking good. Only a real Aggie would attempt his first grow outside .

hey

I am happy thet you figured out your problem Alter .. my PK ryder is mindblowing,I will post a picture for you to see what can you do with LST ..

It was a real cajones type move but I just couldn't wait any more!

I now why my plants are so small now. My pH on the first 2 plants were way off. Hopefully the 2nd plant will perform better. Post that picture, I'd love to see!

So at this point, the first 2 plants are pretty much "a bust", lol. I forgot the post the pH test so here is it (hint hint...Muddy):

Pakistan Ryder:

pH of water going in on Pakistan Ryder: 5.4-5.5
runoff pH of water coming out of Pakistan Ryder: 6.9-7.0

This probably means, that my soil pH is well above 7. I read somewhere that the runoff is always .75-1 point lower than the actual soil ph...which would put my pH at 7.75-8....yikes!!

On the Strawberry Blue:

pH of water going in: 5.4-5.5
runoff pH of water coming out: 6.5-6.6

This plant looks a little healthier than my PR and it makes sense since it pH is lower than the other. The soil pH should be around 7.25-7.5....still not good.

SO.

Anyway, what advice do you guys have??? Flush with properly pH water even though I am organic? I just watered the plants 2 days ago and do not want to overwater..Add something to the soil (fast acting)? I was thinking of getting some pH down and bringing my water to around a pH of 4...maybe that will bring down the range even farther...i dunno.

Any advice appreciated.

Yes, with those numbers your soil pH is still too high. I would suggest getting some sulfur to add to your soil and/or your feed. Powdered form can be added directly to your feeding solution, the split pea type can be mixed into the soil. The powdered type is faster acting than the others.
