New Grower First auto after 22 year break!

Thanks for the encouragement Nosias, I can console myself with a close up though ;¬) they always look better close. Will be fitting two autos into this same area when this is done (Trippy Gorilla and Think Big) and I'll let them do their main cola thing.

That's an interesting idea and choice of strains man, I see chaos in your future hahaha

I think your kush will stretch more than you expect, mine more than doubled in height from this stage

Btw, what made you choose the Trippy gorilla
I'm not familiar with Big Head seeds, their strain descriptions are useless, deceptive, do you expect it to go from seed to harvest in 8 weeks, or is that plus an unspecified vegging time, and yield 400-600 g hahaha

Ha, well it was the 'strongest auto in our range' and also it was a Sativa dominant. I miss the Thai Buddha sticks that I could get in the 70's which would have been Sativas. When one is only growing a single plant or two at the most, then the dazzling array of possible things to grow is more like spinning a giant wheel. There's too much choice.

I've only just realised that if I'm going to grow autos rather than clone a photoperiod then I've got a lot to learn. So two would give me some practice, plus I'm going to use a different method. I think those 400-600 might refer to per metre squared. I saw 2 Think Bigs on the g.row d.iaries site one looked extremely ordinary and yeilded less than 2 oz with a bad light and the other was grown under a 1000HiD and yielded giant compact chunky picture postcard 8 oz.

Ever since you said earlier upthread that I'm paying the price for the topping and not in a good way, I've wanted you to elaborate on that. This is what made me think maybe I should let a couple of autos do their thing before I start fartassing around with them. I guess I could alway supercrop a main cola if I need to.

A couple of photo update, recovered well from the defoliate and screen work but has not been stretching a lot more just yet. I'd be surprised now if this yielded 3 ozs.

Here's some interesting reading, latest research from march 2018. I have decided to up the blue light back to maximum. It's quite blue but I'm encouraged by two things. 1. Upping the blue does not lower the actual photon flux density of the red, or white and 2. the following quote from the research paper...no significant differences were found between the two LED spectra. The two LEDs they are referring to are the Valoya AP673L and the NS1, I have attached a spectrum of them to the thread and the NS1 does have a fairly high blue. Both are compared with HPS

HPS resulted in a significant decline of THC concen- tration in flowers compared to both LED treatments in both experiments, while no significant differences be- tween the two LED types were observed. The amount of THC (% w/w) was highest in treatment NS1 and lowest in treatment HPS in both experiments...

It's looking very good man, nice work

When I was sceptical of your topping you hadn't mentioned you were going to throw in a net. Different plans, different advise haha but you answered your own question, I think

Frequently changing plans and spectrums is best done in between grows, not DURING the grow, or so I've been told :smoking:

Good find on the spectrum trial with sativa

I've done some Think Big runs, and as the name implies, they do get big, very if grown correctly and you seem to be perfectly capable af doing that. I never had one that yielded less than 200 g and got 1,5 m tall, real Matildas haha

I would revisit those future plans, and you don't seem to have any trouble at all with revisiting stuff hahaha

@tone, yes I certainly am flying by the seat of my pants as it were. I think 3 ozs right now would be pretty optimistic and 2 would be acceptable even, provided that the quality was there. Yes I see that two plants in this space is going to be a bit crowded. I'm going to try and afford 3 x 100W ChiLEDs in the new year, I've been researching and thinking a lot about lights but I keep coming back to ChiLED not just for the spectrum but they seem to be a pretty good price for the quality.

I'm just not happy about daylight cobs and quantum boards without additional red. Had a look at Sanlight, but I don't have a house to mortgage so that's out of the question. I am mystified as to why none of the quantum boards bother adding some extra red. I hear they are thinking about it in the future but will not commit to a date. Prolly don't want to get stuck with out of date boards.

Below is a two week flower porno shot of one of the girls, I can't believe how miserable she looked less than a week ago after I brutalised her. Waddaya reckon I should do about defoliating now? Just strip off anything really big and/or anything blocking light, a bit at a time? Or wait a while and then do another major defoliation.

P.S. Is there any way to load up a decent res photo on this site, when I upload it reduces a 450Kb file to 122Kb, plus it makes them half size and blurry as well. So I have linked externally.

There are plenty of QBs with added red now. Just search around on Alibaba. There are also some good threads on GC and RIU that will help a lot.

Even if you only have white boards, there are red supplement boards available from several sources if you want higher end diodes and a whole lot more if you don't mind generic ones. The QB whites also have significant red in them already. You can add supplement or add in CRI 90 for more red. Separate has its advantage over built in as you can be real flexible on how to use them.

QBs will slowly become like cobs where everyone will realize brand means nothing. Only the spec matters. It is what it is. A PCB board with diodes.

I do have the ChilLED 400, an early commercial build that GrowMau5 put together for me. I LOVE it. You can not go wrong with these, PERIOD.
