New Grower Finally after 5 year of waiting, decided it's time for a new Grow.

I am a new grower myself, my opinion shouldnt be taken seriously, but just my 2 cents: MOG’s theory on watering soil is correct,BUT we must take into consideration, what kind of soil is he using?how much drainage does he have?Is he adding extra perlite/vermiculite? IMO if he is watering a 5 gallon pot with 1.5-2 litre of water and he gets excess water, that is a completely different story from growers who use ready from the bag soils. For example i am using the biobizz light mix soil, with nothing else added in it, the other day i watered with 1.5 litres of water, trying to get runoff from the bottom in 5 gallon pots.I got no runoff and my 15 days old plants didnt seem to like it,they drooped a lot for two days and the soil is going to be needing water for a week or more after that.So my thinking is that although the watering until runoff method is the correct way to go, it might not be suitable for everyone.

Reading this thread I realize that watering is a hangup for some, especially new growers. I wish there was a magic button to push where all the knowledge could just flow into our grows. But it ain't. Most learn after killing most especially after actually popping....

Have [patience.....Those who have watering problems are 99% over-watering....A medium needs to drain well but it also needs to dry out...always wet never lets the plant seek, extending roots....
A healthy plant will always tell you when.....

I use FF soil and I can’t water to runoff. My plants always get really droopy.

I think environment, growing style, size of space, medium and pots all have to be accounted for when understanding your watering needs for a successful harvest.

I'm still useless at watering, that's why I use fabric pots,
I Always watered them right through every 2 to 3 days, until someone told be the secret of not letting them dry out to much and use less water but more often .
One of the best bits of advise I got.

Add more perlite...gotta have drainage to draw in oxy...
Been running 25% perlite. Same thing. I’ve just gotten use to what they like and how often. When they’re young it’s a little tougher but when they’re in flower I give them just shy of a liter every other day or so depending on how dry they are. I run 1 gallon pots so that little bit of water goes a long ways.

totally agree and that is why @Don't Fear the Reefer needs to take @blue advice
here
hahaha - that's basically everyone when they start growing! I'm sure we all did the same!

I was thinking yesterday, everything is relative to your past experiences. And when i say things like "an easy grow" .. it's realitve to me having done a more complicated grow (with lots of measureing, and testing .. and calibrating"

Once you find a method that you like and works well for you - it all becomes easier, and you can start tailoring your grows to your own situation.

Some people have loads of time and LOVE doing the science - making sure all the parameters are in check and maxing the plants potential.
Other people like to spend as close to ZERO time in the grow room as possible and still pull a harvert after 70-80 days.

I've done both - but without the first, i wouldn't have been easily able to do the second.

It's best to stick to one mentor for each grow (as too many chefs spoil the broth). I treid lots of different styles when i started out, and took advice from loads of great growers. It ended up that the method i started with and the most simple method, was the method i ended up using as my style. (although a lot more relaxed after a decade or so practice)
. All variables must be taken into account

Yep, a little water goes a loooonnnng way ...especially in 2-3 ltr pots like I use....really easy to get the watering right...LOL

Gelato Auto 25 days above ground, Fantasmo Express x Toof Decay 13 days above ground.
Well it's that time again... update time :woohoo1:
Gelato Auto doing ok, had a few brown patches on the leaves, some had small holes in them.
Decided it was time to feed her, so fed her 309 ppm (was measured on my cheap tds meter, so don't know how accurate it is) :haha:
Was going to give her a higher dose, but there was already 1 litre of water in my sprayer and didn't realise, oops.
Have included the feeding schedule, fed the week 3 feed at half dose.
The leaves were curled downwards the next morning after feeding, some stress maybe, so turned down the light for the day.
The next day she was fine, so turned it back up.
Getting about 490 umols at the moment.
Been leaf tucking along the way.
Anyway, here are a couple of pictures for you.

Now onto the problem child, the Fantasmo Express x Toof Decay.
She hardly seems to be growing, only a small amount each day, which is something I suppose.
You can see her small size in the second overheard picture.
She is not dead yet!
Was thinking of pulling her, but will ride it out for a bit longer.
Anyway here she is at 13 days above ground, 11 days in her forever home.
Edited to add, Fantasmo Express x Toof Decay is getting about 278 umols
