Mephisto Genetics Fantasmo Express K.I.S.S

The old stump from HBSS finally dried up, it was leaking for 4 days:

The watery sap from the HBSS stump was pretty bland, almost tasteless.
Everybody tastes it, right? Wait, what is happening, I am going blind! LOL

Wonder how many seedlings I could have grafted on that HBSS stump before it died.
A missed opportunity...

Day 11 They are getting neglected, temps are 85F to 90F, maybe one will hermie, might be fun

Fantasmo on the left looks pretty good, Fantasmo on the right is heat stressed, I let the airflow get blocked. @Birdu2

Pay no attention to the freaks on the top and bottom, just experiments, cuttings from Tyrone Special.

Day 15 Off with their heads!
It is FIM time, these girls are gonna get extra stress: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I am thinking of 2 fat colas each, and trained so they are short, very short.

The little arrow shows the were the growing tip WAS. The big arrow on the right shows the little piece I removed. @Birdu2
Fantasmo FIM.jpg

It only takes one minute. Is that little snip stressing the plant?
The other Fantasmo in the same container was heat stressed and needs a few more days to recover before FIMing.

While I was snipping... I took off everything at the 1st node. I don't like 'em so why should I let the plant put energy into growing them. So she is FIMed and lollipoped (a little) at day 15.

I like all the fun your having.........there's a bit of catching up to do. I tried stuffing some cuttings from the photo amnesia haze clones I have vegging next to a hubba, but no dice.......yet.......and they all got fimmed the other day. Can't really tell yet if it's a case of planticide

Thanks Corgy!
I skipped the boring details, but since you are here, lets get the party started.
I use a rusty unsterilized utility knife and cut at a 45 degree angle, no rooting gel.

This is my 6th try at rooting cuttings. 3 successful and 3 failures.

The key factors seem to be:
  • how much stalk gets stuffed in the soil, longer is better
  • how much foliage gets trimmed off, less foliage is better.
  • how snug the soil is around the stalk, snugger is better, soak the soil immediately after planting.
Tried air layering once but it didn't work for me.
Tried removing the outer skin of the stalk once but it didn't work for me.

This other cutting from Fantasmo might fail, too much foliage and not enough stalk, loosing water

I could spray the leaves, or put it in a humidity dome, or let it rest in cooler dark conditions.
Nah, too much work.

Coud one of these cuttings grow a nice cola?
I dunno, lets find out.

I think you got those factors spot on......I have seen sawdust being used for a nice tight tuck around the stem.

Obviously...........you get a well deserved, but unofficial, Calvin slap

I have not tried soil layering or serpentine layering like the drawing in your thread.
https://www.autoflower.org/posts/914723/

I have tried air layering on Tyrone Special. Total failure, but might try it again on Fantasmo.

The idea is to establish roots before planting the cutting
