We're not missing the point Nabzter, this is the nature of the pot and the material used for it. It's literally breathable fabric from top to bottom. Water slowly on the very side of the pot and you're going to see water dribble. Water slowly in the middle, and it's less likely to come out the side. Water fast anywhere in the pot and you're likely going to see it overflow.
@olderthandirt nailed it with the small amount to start, that gives the water a path/channel to follow when you do the next round. Ever water really, really dry soil before? Goes EVERYWHERE on the top, because there's nothing absorbed in yet. Water a bit in the middle though, let it soak for a minute, and problem solved.
I grow with multiple pots (3 and 5 gallon) in fabric pots and simply don't have that issue. I'm not trying to be pointed here, I just think you're rushing based on how you've described your method.
