Grow Mediums Draining your system

The gnats I faced came from my dumb assembly and cooking of my mix outdoors. I did it all in a kiddie pool probably kept too moist, and by the time I started the grow, the stuff was seriously infested. I knew that, but figured, incorrectly, that DE and BTi would sort the little buggers. The DE and BTi did the job for a while, but not enough to prevent them from coming back.

This time, the mix is assembled from scratch indoors, and is cooking under a cloth lid which will prevent any bugs from getting at it. I will hit it with BTi a couple times before using it, and will do some preventive DE applications as well. I will document my mischief once it gets rolling.

Thanks for the link, I will drop over and have a look.
i have a rule I never let a plant that's spent a day outside ever indoors again this may have saved me and thanks for your input as sharing is caring bro

Same here. I don’t even harvest my outside plants inside. Too paranoid, they don’t come in until inside jars

A lot of people have great success using living soil. I’ve tried it twice growing auto flowers in soil hand watered at 6.5ph. I followed the directions on the bag the first time but by week 10 the plants we showing deficiencies so I started using regular nutes to finish the grow. The second time I went slightly hotter and made it 12wks. I have to say I loved the simplicity of only checking ph (no mixing nutes) and the plants were super healthy. I’ve read about adding things to the mix to feed the super soil so it stays active since then but I never ordered anymore to try it out. Let me know how it works because from what I’ve seen from the AutoPot system so far (12wks into it) if you can get the super soil figured out with this system it would literally be sit back and chill while all your equipment does the work. Take a peak inside the tent here and there, little training when needed….simple

@Olderfart hey there! Really pleased to be reading this post as I start my Autopot journey…
Used your sandpaper to germination prep method yesterday… See 1st photo!

Quick question for anyone: just about to set up my Autopot Flexipots, and putting clay pebbles in the bottom of them.
Did you wash the clay pebbles before you use them? I know they say to wash them for hydroponics, but not sure if that matters for soil. What do you think? Cheers

I wash them thoroughly and then soak in PHd water overnight, twice. But I don't think the clay is really needed at all. I don't use it anymore, just Coco/perlite top to bottom

You don't have to use the pebbles. They mess up the wicking capability of the medium in the pot. Just use Coco with 25 - 30% perlite
