Grow Mediums Draining your system

Thanks everyone! Hands on experience is best so I really appreciate the feedback. Keeping the system active (unless issues arise) with the ph and EC in check makes more sense and is why I’m switching over to AutoPots
I read that statement last night in a few different articles but none of them explained it exactly so I was curious how others did it.

Weekly flushing with just 1 gallon through the top will keep the buildup/lockout away from 5 gallon pots of Coco. Taking the plants out gets to be a pain in the ass when the plants get big but it'll keep lockout from buildup away from an auto grow if you do it up to week 10 or so
I have been thinking that pre-emptive flushing might do the trick. But next grow is going to be living soil to see how that works. If it does, bye bye salt nutes. Autovalves and water only seem made for one another.

A lot of people have great success using living soil. I’ve tried it twice growing auto flowers in soil hand watered at 6.5ph. I followed the directions on the bag the first time but by week 10 the plants we showing deficiencies so I started using regular nutes to finish the grow. The second time I went slightly hotter and made it 12wks. I have to say I loved the simplicity of only checking ph (no mixing nutes) and the plants were super healthy. I’ve read about adding things to the mix to feed the super soil so it stays active since then but I never ordered anymore to try it out. Let me know how it works because from what I’ve seen from the AutoPot system so far (12wks into it) if you can get the super soil figured out with this system it would literally be sit back and chill while all your equipment does the work. Take a peak inside the tent here and there, little training when needed….simple

Can't wait to get home and get going. I may upsize the growdrobe, and this combined with other pre-winter chores may delay things a bit, but by early November I should get some beans soaking. I sure am looking forward to seeing how the soil works. This will be round 2, the first was a fail due to gnats, but I think I have that problem dealt with. We shall see...

Heres my thread these are at day 15 i started them in lightmix then into sohum also with bugs and knats thats always stopped me trying soil so fingers crossed as that would be a deal breaker for me https://www.autoflower.org/threads/...iesel-and-elephant-in-sohums-live-soil.84779/

I have to say, wish I’d found this site sooner . Long time hand watering soil grower. Too many power outages here to try hydro. I’ve had the AutoPot system in a box on my shelf for over a year, maybe more than that lol I’ve delayed using because I’m a creature of habit and info online for this system is sparse. So far I’m glad I’ve switched over snd have learned more about this system the last couple weeks since joining this forum than I imagined

The gnats I faced came from my dumb assembly and cooking of my mix outdoors. I did it all in a kiddie pool probably kept too moist, and by the time I started the grow, the stuff was seriously infested. I knew that, but figured, incorrectly, that DE and BTi would sort the little buggers. The DE and BTi did the job for a while, but not enough to prevent them from coming back.

This time, the mix is assembled from scratch indoors, and is cooking under a cloth lid which will prevent any bugs from getting at it. I will hit it with BTi a couple times before using it, and will do some preventive DE applications as well. I will document my mischief once it gets rolling.

Thanks for the link, I will drop over and have a look.

Glad to hear that you found us, and that this bunch of grow bros is helping you out. Don't hesitate to ask stuff, peeps here are about the friendliest and most helpful bunch you are likely to run into online when it comes to growing pot. Shoot me a pm anytime on the autopot system, and have a look at my troubleshooting sticky shown below. I confess that I have not sorted the nute side of autopots, but I did manage to figure out how the valves work, and knowing that well can be a big help. Here's the link to the sticky:

I soak mosquito bits over night in my nutrients and water through with that. Every couple weeks. Been working great for me for gnats
