Pardon me if you've already done this but check your pH. That's what caused similar problems for me, too alkaline soil.
I lost every single fan leaf and half the sugar leaves long before harvest. This is what my plants ended up looking like:
To tell you the truth, it's no big deal. The progression may be hideous to look at but cannabis is a tough ass plant. The buds will grow decently pretty much no matter what. What you have here is a very nice plant and she's so far along that I wouldn't worry at all. That is not to say I wouldn't try to fix the problem.
Normal pH down or for someone hellbent on staying 100% organic, citric acid, should do the trick if you're suffering from too high pH like I was.
EDIT: I imagine the smell could be from all kinds of funky shit populating the soil. Might not be much of a problem but it's never good to keep the soil too moist for very long periods of time, assuming that is the origins of the smell.
I've no evidence this helps, but
gently poking holes in the soil should help your roots out by allowing for some oxygen. So should lightly squeezing your pot so the soil breaks up a bit. Do not overdo or you might damage the roots too much.
