Northern Lights Big Bud cross day 88 ...

Awesome read man. Already looking to upgrade my cfl. Where did you get the LED from? I've got a nlbb bean, might have to bump it up the list after reading through this.
I got it in the UK, we pay far too much for electronic goods compared to the US, here's manufacturer :

Here's where i got it from :

They told me they gave me the newer version that also has some 5W bulbs in with the 3W bulbs, but, weirdly, they haven't updated their web description in months even though the site has been revamped so it's still being advertised as three watt LEDs ..

Day 86 update? :) I'm probably growing this next so I can't wait to see how it goes!!

Haha! OK some pics specially for you! I was snipping off a bud to oven-dry and test smoke and i broke a stem :(

Haven't done that since grow number 2 and this is my 8th grow so not bad!

When it happened in grow 2 i was advised to put a dab of honey on the break, splint it up and tape around it, so i did the same this time, apparently the sugar in honey is in a form that plants can readily convert and use, don't know if it's true but it seems to work.

Now and then i see confusion about what are trichomes and what are pistils.

Trichomes are the tiny dots that look like someone coated your plant with sugar around the buds and leaves.

NLBB doesn't get much sugar on the leaves but the buds are nice and sticky.

In this picture you can see the tiny trichomes are mostly milky and some are turning amber, clearly in the lower-half of the picture :

This indicates the plant is ready for harvesting, or could go a bit longer until more trichs turn amber.

Nearly half of the long pistils have turned amber, too, and the buds have fattened up more.

But there are still plenty of white pistils, which indicates still more growth potential.

The oven-dried smoke is g o o d, i think this is going to be more potent than i'm used to :)

She is for the chop this weekend maybe, i meant to give her pure water yesterday but had a smoke then went on autopilot and did a normal feed!

Trouble is she won't want water again for a few days so i'm turning down the extraction in order to raise cab temperature so she will be forced to drink more, would like to give her two pure water feeds before chopping but don't want to harvest too late !

Thanks a lot for stopping by, steely

Looking great dude. some lovely colours on those buds. Dam great gardening there buddy, gotta love it man. So you reckon shes more potent than the abb?

Thanks for the pics!! Considering her genetics I don't think you'll want her to get much more amber or you'll be unconscious half the time, lol!

Hey Steely

I just read through the whole thread and I can honestly say you deserve this.
:slap:

I have just germed an auto blue berry, so your thread proved very useful

I will be looking out for your future grows

Cheers for the info. Looked at both sites and it's cheaper direct from Prakasa atm, although they don't say which version.

Thanks a lot Briain :) More potent than ABB, well, more heady, wheras i found ABB to be pure 'lie down and dream' kind of stuff. Whereas the NLBB i can dream a little but also get up and do a little too !

My pleasure! Yes i agree, i think i may pull her before the weekend without flushing, the organic compost and nutes breakdown a lot of the salts left by the chemical additives i've used this time round.

Thanks very much seraphim :) Glad it's been helpful and cheers for the rep :)

Yes i find it weird they don't update their website with the fact that there have been 5w models on sale for a while ... Doh! Just had a thought, they obviously need to sell-off all the 3W models, but then why provide me with a 3w/5w mix model ?

I've half a mind to open it up and check the wattage but my electronics knowledge is only basic, i think these LED units are surface-mounted and i may not be able to unlock what's holding down the bulb to remove it for testing.

Damn good light, though. My friend uses 250W HPS and his colas (he LSTs) average around 8 inches long, this 120W LED is giving me 6 to 8 inch colas that have solid, weighty buds.

Considering the lower wattage, less heat and therefore less noise and smell it's a great investment at £130, costing around £7 ($12) a month to run in the UK, compared to £12.50 ($21) for my mates HPS.

Thanks a lot for comments :)

Choptastic!

Chopped the Northern Lights Big Bud cross today at day 89.

I think she will be an ounce dry and i've already oven dried and smoked a quarter so a good result.

Two lovely strains.

The ABB is a mellow, couchlock hit, i found. Very smiley. But the buds were a little airy.

The NLBB is mellow, too, but also has a nice, heady high so you can get busy or relax.

Very good buds on the NLBB, denser and harder than the ABB.

Just preparing the soil now for the next grow.

Thanks all for reading and commenting :)

All the best,

Nice work steelz! That's one honkin cola you got there, possibly a litre-o-cola

Looks fantastic mate. Inspiring stuff :)
