what are 'pre flowers' never heard that one..... when I see anything but a leaf developing on a stem I call it flowering.. or WTF is this?...this is what I call 'baby' buds on the move! ...some call this flowering... some call it done!
when a plant comes into sexual maturity it will pre flower , even photo plants under 18+ hours of light do it
you can have plants shoot pre flowers for months , although under ideal conditions they normally only do it at the first stage of sexual maturity and no "actual flowering" begins untill the hours are lowered
auto's also pre flower at fist sexual maturity in life , they then go into the preflower stretch and then actual flowering mode
imo you need to read more and type less , sorry if that came off as rude , i didnt mean it to be , im not the best with words though
Preflowers usually emerge as singles lower on the plant and this is what you first see to tell sex. They normally don;t produce reg flowers .After the preflowers it takes awhile for the full flower stage to start.
My photo plants always preflower a good bit before I put them into flowering. It never leads to anything.. I think its kinda like puberty.. not having babies yet but could be. Now the Autoflower ive grown flowered so fast you cannot really differentiate preflower and flower.. autos put out bud so fast that once she starts putting out calyx, they just keep coming and form buds. My photo plants always put out just one or two calyx per node as soon as it old enough as if to say Hey! I'm a girl!!

agree , other then my plants photo/auto tend to show first on top
@ mallo , you are right , but if you have the experience and know what you are looking at , you will see the pre flowers and definately notice the pre flower stage , be it very quick with autos like you mentioned
Thanks guys, you've been really helpful. I am just trying to remain hopeful that they will finish in time to avoid too much in the way of bud rot (botrytis) which we all have to contend with in the UK in autumn months.

I think the photo is misleading, from what I can remember I didn't notice any budding. I will check again in the next couple of days and take another pic. You might be right but I can't recall seeing the beginnings of any buds, apart from female pre-flower pistils.
