Hi guys!

I've been thinking more and more about growing without any chemical bottled fertilizers. I've just purchased 2 sets of granular organic fertilizer in the local gardening shop ( NPK 8-3-6 and NPK 4-8-10 for veg and bloom for my next grow. I think I will try to powder them (around 40g of each for a 2 gallon fabric pot) and mix with the soil when germinating.

Recently I've been looking for some simple house products I can use as supplements. I'm drying coffee grounds from my daily coffee, rich in N, about 2%. I'm keeping the egg shells I use cooking, rich in cal and mag. I'm drying some potato and banana peels, rich in K, about 35-40% I believe and residual N and P.

For the egg shells, potato and banana peels, I will powder them when I'll get enough collected to make it easier (and faster) fornthe micro-organism and bacteria in the soil to process it.

Wanna know if any of you ever used this kind of simple ammendments, if they disolve in time for the plant to use theese nutrients.

And please share if you know about any other household things like this you can use as organic fertilizers!

Happy grows :D

Try some frass or bat guano. Take a look at Gaia green too! Some great plants grown with those amendments. I see what your trying to do and use up your leftovers. I save my coffee grounds but not sure how to Best use them. So I’ll follow along if that’s cool?

I was thinking about buying some guano 1-10-1 for flower boost. I've seen gaia green and it seems amazing but they don't ship to europe, no way of getting it here. :(

I used my coffee grounds, 1 tb spoon for a 2 gallon pot as top dresser before watering. Just let it dry and spread it well to avoid mold issues on the soil, it worked for me so far :D

You can buy Gaia green in the U.K. but it’s very expensive. I opted for a mix of blood n bone and frass to give me a 4-4-4 alternative........I’ve not used it yet so don’t know how effective it will be.

I’m looking for the link for it now and I can’t find it? Anyone know?

Have you noticed any benefits to using your coffee grounds?

Well to answer your main query ,is typically no,but yes as well.No meaning they will give you no instant source for these minerals.however, once powdered you will get an initial HIT from the stuff being pulverized. It should be composted into smaller to medium batches (or large if you got the room and wares for that) then can be boosted with granules a little before use like a week the that will be great for veg and a touch of lime too probably to help breakdown.and usually the coffee grounds are often used to get the main acids out of the grounds.A worm bin could be your best friend with a bokashi bin as well.

I don’t think there’s much magnesium in egg shells but there’s certainly lots of calcium. If you want to make it more immediately available, look up the Korean Natural Farming (KNF) method of making Water Soluble Calcium or “WCA.” Chris Trump has some great instructional videos on YouTube and one or two include the process of making WCA. Sounds like you might find the whole practice of KNF pretty interesting as it’s designed to allow you to farm using local, home made inputs.

I wrote in organic section about jlf means jadam liquid fertaliser. Made from the only the best organic weeds and grass in your area. You take a big hand full of leaf mold place in a plastic garbage can or barrel. Now start ripping out weeds and grass to fill your container, fill with water and place in the sun to ferment. In a few weeks it will start to smell like a cow's but. Its ready in a month and only gets better with age. My bucket of yuck or stink juice is now two years old.You never have to take out grass residue only add more and add more water as level is used. It is suggested you dilute from 20 to 1 to 500 to 1.It's not very hi in N 1 to 2 % but it grows stuff like crazy. You can use as soil drench or folier spray. I grew 30 plants and never used anything but jlf, worm tea, home made calphosphate, lab as soil drench. I totally intend to grow my winter indoor with this , good luck.
