Lighting DIY mars conversion. Questions and answers here.

Hey BigSm0, thanks for the response. I have built an 11 cob cxb3590 and it's working very nicely. Hence my love for the cxb.
My plan would be to run it over one plant using DWC bucket. So I'm aiming for 200w+ for flower and some veg.
I may just go the complete build out. Out of curiosity how can I learn more about the lights you suggested. How to read the bins ext.
I guess the best way is to spend some time here. I try to show as much as possible as well as offering what I can for advice. My experience with Cree was it works and does a good job but short of the citizens as far as quality goes.

My friend and I are are hacking a mars 2 900 and want to make sure the cobs are suited to the driver before purchasing them. I've built my own light but with a mean well so these drivers are confusing me as to what its total output is. I don't want to make a mistake on someone else's property so I'd thought I'd enlist some authority. Here are the drivers that were hoping to fit with vero 29 se' to fill a 1.2m2 space.

I’m not sure the voltage on the vero’s. If they are less than 50v you can run 2 per driver. Looking at the light I’m not sure you would need to though. 7 drivers you could run one cob per driver and that’s a lot of light.

What about the citizens? You could do 1812’s or 1818’s at 35 watts per cob and that would be your best bet and probably cost less.

Citizens though great aren't as available to us and we want the vero se solderless connection, I'm using some 18s now and though they don't seem as bright as my old 1212s (that I butchered) they are so darn easy to use and come with a ten year warranty and are still relatively cheap even compared to citizens.

The 29s come in 39, 52 and 69v. I was going with the train of thought that using up the drivers output was the goal, so 69v version. Problem is that requires 9 or 10 cobs to use the 700v available and we don't have the surface area or money for that.

Were thinking five 29s of the most suited v variation, with one or two connected too 100-200w* worth of driver lead to veg switch, and the rest wired with most efficient number of driver paired to the remains cobs on the bloom switch.

By removing drivers or swapping fv choice could I lower the w per cob to 50 rather than the 0.745×100=74.5w? Looking at the sum and driver specs I'm guessing no.

Sounds okay in my head but next step is buying and building so I want to reach out. What do you think mate?

Thanks for the time and effort mate, now and in the past. I really appreciate it.

I just did a Mars 700 with the guidance of BigSm0. The 700 has 5 drivers but I only used 4 with one 1812 per driver. Real easy conversion, the hardest part was stripping off the old led's and sanding the surface clean.

Were planning on using a new plate to save that hassle, good to know sand paper can recover the old ones though. Designating drivers to cobs is what we are going to do, just not sure how to do it %100.

@Cranky ahh so you've just wired the old plates quick connects to the new cobs terminals then connected them to the drivers quick connects? How do we keep the veg bloom buttons in function then?

The way the 700 was wired it had two drivers on one switch and three on the other, I just disconnected one driver from the switch with three. Just make sure you use the drivers that run the fans.

Came out great! The led solder does tear up the sand paper but that aluminum isn’t super cheap either. Better to save it than pitch it.

Okay thanks for the help guys, I'll post pics when the build is complete, which is on hold now due to lack of funds.
