First of all I am very lucky to have found AFN because it taught me everything I know about autoflowers. I am very grateful to be part of this great community that seems to be very friendly and supportive, unlike some other forums that I am used to. This is my first time growing autoflowers. I decided to go all organic and try out the delicious northern lights blue Auto.

Set up:

· 11 litre containers

· Organic Tomato soil with PH 5.8 but the runoff is always 8 and I got some gnats from this soil

· Biobizz Grow, Bloom and Root Juice

· 80x80x160cm Growbox

· True 150w draw panel with veg and flower mode

· Carbon filter

· 2 fans

· Milwakee digital PH

· PH of runoff is 8 and I counteract by adjusting my PH of water to 5.5

Quick summary:

I have been struggling with the summer heat wave for the whole veg phase: from day 1-36 with temps ranging from 32-37 C (90-98 F.)

I have germinated 2 seeds: One on 8th of July and the other one on the 12th of July. Initially I just wanted to grow one plant but then decided to germinate another one 4 days later. Light schedule 18/6 for the Day 1-12 and then 20/4 from day 13 onwards.

Day 1-12: Each plant had its own 30 Watt CFL with 6500K distance

Day 13-21: Both were placed under the LED with the veg mode set to 50

Day 22-36: Set the LED veg mode to 80 watts 20h/day

Day 37-41: Switched to flower mode @ 130 W and started adding Bloom nutes

Day 42-44 Today: Running LED @ full strength 150 W

Basically I try to read everything that Muddy writes and apply it in my grow. I waited with the bloom nutes until the vertical grow stops, which was on day 37. Both plants look so small. I know that due to LST the growth spreads across all the branches, but I still expected more growth out of the plants because the breeder claims that the plant can easily reach 70 cm (27.5 inch) and often grows up to 1m (39 inch) or even more. Nevertheless, I continue to feed my girls with Biobizz Grow and Bloom every feeding in order to get the most out of them. I started doing LST to my girls when they were 2 weeks old and therefore it is difficult to measure their height because they are flat. However, the main stem of my younger NLB is approx. 36cm (14 inch) long and the main stem of the older NLB is approx. 13 inch long. They have both stopped the vertical growth and I ask myself whether the plants that have undergone LST always seem to be little but in the end have a greater yield due to an even canopy compared to naturally grown plants?

My biggest concern is that my girls are not reaching their full potential because of several factors that might have stunted their growth which include:

· High temps during the veg stage

· Using organic tomato soil that seems to be too strong and cause a bit of nute burn

· Keeping the lights too close in order to keep short internodes

· LST the girls very early at about week 2

Today (which is day 44 from sprout for the older sister and 40 days for the younger sister) I have noticed that a few of the pistils started to turn orange and shrivel on both of my girls. I tried to capture it in the pictures but it is difficult to see the orange pistils in the pics. Is it possible that a few pistils are turning orange because the LED is too close to them, causing too much stress, or are my babies just maturing too fast? I also might have accidentally touched a few buds while performing LST. Can touching cause the pistils to turn orange?

I have only made pictures of the younger sister which is a bit bigger that the older sister. Can you please look at the pictures and asses the condition of the plant and tell me whether she is doing alright for her age of 40 days? Please also take into account that I did LST and the canopy is very even with approximately 12 bud sites on the same level.

My main questions are:

1) Do you think it was a mistake to perform LST on the girls? I did it to increase the yield and although it has a very even canopy with many bud sites the plant looks very small.

2) Is it possible that the plants that experienced LST look small compared to naturally grown, but in the end yield more because of the even canopy advantage?

3) Is it normal for some pistils to start turning orange on day 40 or are my babies going to mature too early with a minimum yield?

4) Can the pistils turn orange due to stress because of the LED being too close or because I accidently touched the buds??

5) What is your overall impression of the plant and its yield potential?

6) Do you have any suggestions?

I know I am probably asking too many questions and worrying too much but I just want the best outcome for my girls after putting so much time and effort researching and caring for them.

Many thanks in advance !!!

welcome noob?:) yeah you're in the right place. i'm sure that someone is writing some advice etc right now...really long entry you have. i'm a newbie too so this is just for a salute. good luck and happy growing:greenthumb:

H noob welcome to The AFN.. i really dont see anything wrong with your girls at all. LST wont hurt them just keep up the hard work you getting there..

Do you know how to do the runoff formula? Because you know you have to do some math to get the right number for the runoff.

You have at least a month maybe more before harvest so I wouldn't worry about the couple orange pistils. she will start getting fat before you know it. Besides there's not much more you can do now is pull up a chair wait.

They look great dude keep doing what your doing. :pass:

@dadabud
Thanks for the salute. I know the post was long lol...I just wanted to include as much info. as possible to portray
a better picture of my situation

@ The Elvis
Thanks Elvis I just think that it looks so small and stunted.

@ Fantasy Island

I think it is something like: If my water PH is 6.5 and my runoff is 8 then it means that my soil PH is at least 9.5.

Please correct me if I’m wrong. Is it the PH value of my runoff minus PH of the water and the result is then added to the runoff value to identify the PH of the soil.

I use lemon kick from Plagron to regulate the PH of my water to 5.5 because my runoff is too high 8 and I read somewhere that it is bad for the beneficial bacteria of organic soil if you use water with PH lower than 5. So I decided to play it safe and water my plants with PH of 5.5 and try to gradually lower the high PH of my soil but unfortunately it take ages to see the changes because organic lemon juice degrades fast and is not as effective phosphoric acid in lowering the PH of the soil.

More bacteria=alkaline (Bacteria excrete alkaline slimes to bind soil particles and create a friendly environment)
More fungi=acidic(Fungi excrete acids in order to unlock certain nutrients in the medium)

@ Fantasy Island

Thanks, I really hope that she has still a lot of growth potential…will follow your advice and garb a chair to enjoythe rest of the show these girlz have to offer LOL

Dude I don't know the formula. I just bought the a8 soil probe. I do know there's a lot of debate about how accurate testing runoff is.

Yeah, I would tell you not to stress but that would make me a hypocrite. lol
