In this thread, I will be doing a multi-vendor test that shall be comprised of the following:
@Fast Buds Heather Auto gelato x2, which will be fed @Prescription Blend nutrients through autopots, in one @Rain Science 3 gallon grow bag and one 5 gallon felt smartpot, under @BigSm0 autocobs, and sprayed with @RotBlock (it’s gonna be humid soon). I’m doing one 3, and one 5 as a side by side comparison, also, since everything else is identical. I’ll post that thread once seeds are in the coco.
Grown in coco.
(I feel like I should also add that I’ve grown pounds upon pounds upon pounds under autocobs, and don’t really need to show they work.)
May wind up a complete flustercluck, May run smoothly.
I’m really not sure where to put this, and am not a fan of copying and pasting, So this’ll work hopefully.

Vendors: If you see a picture you like or could use, snag it. Just give me credit (Dichoti @AFN, or whatnot)

To start, Two fastbuds auto gelato were dropped into a cup of water, Where they’ll remain until they sink.

I’m also doing a “dry run” of my autopots right to make sure they don’t leak (again).

Next update will be when seeds hit coco.

The bags. I know there’s a difference in height, So it’s not an identical comparison, but it’ll show how the 3 gallon compares to the 5. Width is close, but not identical. We’ll see how it works out. Maybe I should have said it’s a 3 gal vs 5 gal test or something.

Ahhh.. I couldn't quite make out what was being compared. So this will be a 3 gal auto grow vs 5 gal auto grow.. Got it. Hopefully you get two very similar phenos to compare.

Yeah, hopefully.
I wasn’t exactly 100% “with it” when I typed out the first post, So I’ll go back and fix it tomorrow when my mind isn’t melting.

@Dichoti looking forward to it! I think this is going to be a good read and I’m very interested to see if the depth of a cloth pot makes a difference in coco. I always had roots grow out the sides way before hitting the bottom so this should be interesting.

When it comes to the depth of a pot, It’ll have an effect to an extent. I grew an indie breeder’s blackberry kush x green crack auto in a 27 gallon tote full of coco, And it really didn’t get any bigger than what I’ve grown in my 7 gallon cloth bags. The buds were the size of solo cups, But the plant structure was similar to what I previously mentioned.
I’ve got a ton of experiments I want to do (homemade fog-ponic system that won’t screw VPD, 25 gallon pot thats shaped like a 5 gallon bucket, etc etc) once I get off my butt and get some motivation.
I don’t know if you guys @Prescription Blend have checked out @Rain Science products, But they’re well worth the money. Plastic coated mesh grow bags. Honestly, If I don’t get a ton of coco in my autopot from the mesh, I’ll probably be ordering another one to use.

I’m definitely going to follow along. I have always thought the depth of the pot has a bigger impact on the plants size then the actual capacity of the pot.
The one thing I’m curious about, Is if the plant in the smaller pot will get a head start, Since it’s roots will hit the bottom 1/3rd of the pot first.

...oh, While I was doing a “dry run” with my autopots, I shoved my hand in the coco to see how much of the coco actually “wicks up” water. It’s about the same in both pots, which is a little over 1/3rd.
So to avoid the possibility of a head start, I’m going to give them both a week and a half to two weeks, And then will put them on the autopots.

I’m not real certain why the one I grew in a 27 gallon tote wound up like it did. Depth wise, it had about 6” more to grow than it would in a 7 gallon felt pot. It was probably just the genetics. The stuff was potent as all get out, But didn’t last very long at all.
Once I get the motivation, I’m going to make a 25 gallon grow bag that’s shaped like an oil drum, And use proven genetics (Probably go with Fastbuds, honestly). I was just going to use one of those Collapsible cloth laundry hampers originally, but the cloth was pretty crappy and tore while I was filling it up lol
