The slower the dry,the better..You could also dry with the fan leaves on,I've seen alot of greenhouse growers do that..I just have 2 6 " fans at the bottom of the tent blowing at the floor and the wall..So this way air will hit the walls and pass a slight breeze, nothing direct for circulation around the buds..None of the buds are touching,as after I hung the plants,I grabbed each stem and gently pulled them away from each other to open the plant up.My drying area is my growing area @ 2'7" x 2'7" x 5'11"..sometimes I get that grassy smell, or when you pop the lid it smells super dank but up close a slight hayish smell..After a proper cure though, done slowly, that goes away and the funk comes out as well as rediculous flavors and a smooth, even burning product with a clean snow white ash.
If there's one thing I HAVE changed, it's the speed with which I dry, which has made a HUGE improvement.. The only reason I'm not sold on it being me totally in the dark on this is that others have had similar experiences with some strains that just don't smell.. I thought the Heavyweight Fruit Punch autos I did would smell amazing... Nope.... I even dried them over 2 weeks and jarred them correctly.. Just never got a smell or taste from it.. I ended up using it as filler for blunts because the bud was still good, in terms of effects, but poor in smell and taste.. Bag appeal was awesome, as well!!
I have just enough space to hang some lines and line dry the buds this time, so I'm gonna try it.. What's the worst that could happen, I get bud that still isn't super fragrant but still smokes great?? lol
