CS - 1st timer questions. How to time it? Better to reverse half a plant and pollinate it?

Hey-ho AFN fam!

Got some CS and ready to reverse. Been doing a ton of reading and youtube, and one dude said that it is much better to self-pollinate a plant.
To reverse only half a plant, and let the other half produce seeds. I can't remember what exactly he said, but apparently makes them more stable.

I popped 2 AutoUltimates by DP, very stable strain … my idea was to reverse 1 and have the other produce seeds. Or is it really better to self-pollinate?

Another question, should the reversed plant be grown earlier that the female? If so, then previous question makes no sense, and I messed up and need to pop another seed ASAP.

Personal experience... Start the one youre reversing 4 to 6 weeks ahead. Start spraying 1 branch as soon as you see pistils on it. Spray 2x a day.

Its better to pollenate another plant, but you CAN self pollenate if you want.
I found that i get better timing and more/better seeds if i can hit them during early flower (pom pom stage) and allow the seeds a full 5 to 7ish weeks to mature.

wooah 4 to 6 weeks ahead?? That much?

Think about it, pistils around day 28ish. It takes another 4 to 6 weeks for viable pollen. That puts you at week 8 to 10. In my experience, week 6 to 7 is the golden time to pollenate. It gives around 5 to 6 weeks for the buds and seeds to finish together. And dont forget to collect some pollen and store it in the back of your freezer in a jewelery bag with rice. Itll be good for 3 to 6 months if you decide to pollenate a bud or 2 next run.

If this is strictly personal, i HIGHLY recommend target pollenating single lower buds or branches. Ive pulled 40 to 300 seeds from a single branch. If you're not planning on a serious breeding project, no need for 1000s of seeds from the same cross... Youll be making more im sure. :smoking:

That way the bud is still good to smoke AND i get the benefit of fully developed seeds. I personally dry and cure the bud and collect the seeds as i go.

@Hypathetical Gardener - man, thanks so much. I feel dumb for not figuring it out like that. Then how on earth can that guy suggest self-pollination??

Seems simple with the same strain. Just around the time they sex and you start CS, then pop another seed to pollinate

Dont hate the origional source. Many people self plants. Me included. If you pollenate 1 branch, you can harvest the rest on time and let that pollenated branch go as long as needed. If you only have 1 seed, or limited space, ya gotta do what you can to get by.

Wait, so it CAN be done? Well then, I've got 2 plants on day 9 looking good. Will treat on and leave the other to flower (instead of doing half-half). But will also drop a new bean in water as backup.

From several weeks looking for info in my off time, never managed to get this info from tutorials or guides. My biggest question is, once a female is pollinated, will she live longer than usual for the sake of seed, or just quit life with immature seeds.

I have no doubt this is a very open question, but thanks for your input @Hypathetical Gardener makes me reassured plus with a backup plan

I'd best make this thread a seed diary for my own future development… pics and more details soon

Tou can reverse a couple branches of one and let it pollinate the rest of the plant. Also you can collect some if that pollen and fertilize a select few branches of successive grows/strains. I am cloning an auto and reversing it. that way I can take it out of the tent b4 it pops and just collect the polenta. Then pollinate selectively with it. If it works which it will.

Right, that is what I usually see and read around. By my question/confusion is about maturation times of those seeds. If a plant gets self-pollinated, will it go an extra 4 to 6 weeks to mature seeds, or just quit life as usual and seeds become hit and miss

Doubt it will.live longer. You will (should) get plenty of viable seeds. Also you can keep feeding it and let the trichs amber out (grow longer than you would normally harvest) as the seed pods mature you can be harvesting seeds as it is still living/growing/maturing...
