Outdoor Crow's GG at 56ºN

Plants look good. Tough conditions out there. I can see all the rocks and rubble you had to deal with.
In the end I just scooped bowl shaped holes out of the granite chippings and put compost, coco and some top soil from underneath nearby trees in them. No way to get down to the native soil underneath without some serious hardware or days of digging. As long as the girls can spread roots and put down a tap root they're fine it seems. :greenthumb:

Readers who have followed this thread closely (Okay, that's probably just me
:D
) might recall I mentioned plans to do some 'plant and forget' growing over the summer, in addition to the larger plots I'm working on.

I mentioned these plans here and @Sawney_bean kindly sent me a bunch of auto seeds for this purpose. Very generous, and I have just popped some in soil to germinate. Six each of Spawn Of Sawney (SOS) and Small Lecter.

I'll put them out in groups of four plants, two of each strain most likely. For other runs I'll be using clones of Super Kush, Joshua, Triton Biscotto Lime and Frisian Duck.

Some pics of Sawney's Beans below.

Brief round-up regarding the seedlings in the veg cab and small tent.

The first wave of photoperiod girls are now 40 days old, or nearly six weeks. I had intended to plant them out by now, but haven't even started prepping their plot. They are starting to get fairly big, so I might top the taller girls soon.

The second wave are just two weeks old, growing well but still seedlings. I'll try to get them out as soon as I can, but again they need a plot. Priority will be the first wave.

Here are the first wave. BCN Critical XXL Fast are in the middle, a Guerrilla Gold Pie Fast top right, Essex Gold bottom right and left, and Sweet Afghani Delicious top left.

The second wave. Shaman bottom middle and left, and middle left. Guerrilla Gold Pie Fast top left and middle, Kush Mintz top right. Citrus Burst in the centre and middle right.

I'm rooting for you :toke:

Went to see how the Auto Duck were getting on this evening, gave them a feed. They are 53 days old. The two larger girls look like they are about to flower. They're getting nice and bushy after topping, and staying low which is good for stealth. The two smaller girls are stretching, but no sign of flower yet. One has been nibbled by caterpillars by the looks of it. All doing fine though.

Later on, after the Auto Ducks, went to check on a plot site that I first recced in October. I had decided against it at the time, but after losing two plots I returned to see how it looked. A bit more overgrown than in the autumn, but plenty of cover and seems to have good potential. I cleared a bit of undergrowth, mostly brambles, dog roses and rosebay willow herb. There is giant hogweed not that far away, but luckily none in the bit I want to use. The plot is screened by trees, bushes and thick brambles, so almost ideal. I dug some test holes with a hand fork and trowel to see what the soil was like. Surprisingly seems to be alright, a bit stony maybe but usable. Good news!

I'm getting a positive vibe off this place now. It's well hidden but fairly accessible at the same time. I will return soon with a spade and fork to dig over, then make planting holes and add amendments. Within a week I should be ready to plant out the first wave, hopefully. There's good scope to make another plot nearby too.

Pottering around my collection of cuts and clones by the window this lunchtime. Keen readers may recall I topped the two larger Auto Ducks a couple of weeks ago and put the tops to root. Well, the cuts are alive, but both are starting to flower. A nearby Joshua cut is flowering too.

I suppose the old adage that auto clones are the same age as the mums is coming true here. It's a bit odd, because previous experience seems to show a delay in flowering when an auto is cloned. It could be strain dependent, or it could be that the Auto Ducks were very close to flower when topped, or it could be environmental, given the mums are growing outside. Whatever the reason, looks like I'll just get a couple of buds on sticks out of it.

Not sure whether to pot up, plant out, whatever. Because I'm not entirely convinced the cuts have rooted yet. Is it really possible they're flowering without roots? Anyway, my instinct is to pot up and bung them outside. Maybe in a few days' time...

Visited the new autos plot yesterday evening. I thought they might need some water, and I wanted to retrofit some slug barriers in case we get some rain soon.

Some of the girls were looking a bit droopy, some a bit unhappy, and one rather poorly. Some were just fine, total contrast. Anyway I gave all the flowering girls some tomato feed, and the rest plain water. Also a teaspoon of slow release fertiliser granules for every girl.

Here's how the plot looked on arrival. As you can see some girls are looking lush, and others don't seem very happy.
large.IMG_20230616_210755_206.jpeg

Thunder Banana Auto were both spindly anyway, stretched in the veg cab. But both seem to be doing okay outdoors, especially considering they were lying horizontal on Sunday after being blown over.
large.IMG_20230616_210404_778.jpeglarge.IMG_20230616_210412_038.jpeg

The Joshua clone is okay, but not looking as happy as she could. A bit of bleaching on a few leaves - maybe the sun's been a bit strong, and not enough water? Still, healthy enough overall.
large.IMG_20230616_210420_355.jpeg

Mandarin Panties Auto were looking a bit sad, quite a few yellowing leaves lower down. I expect this is a combination of transplant shock and the very dry, hot weather this week. Also maybe a bit hungry? Still alive though, hopefully the tomato feed will help.
large.IMG_20230616_210500_730.jpeglarge.IMG_20230616_210550_837.jpeg

Nightmare also looking a bit unhappy, lots of pale leaves. Again I'm hoping that she will like the feed.
large.IMG_20230616_210512_243.jpeg

Outdoor UK Auto is doing fine in comparison to the bigger flowering girls. Maybe a bit of a pattern there with smaller girls doing better? Or could be strain dependent.
large.IMG_20230616_210536_633.jpeg

The Super Kush clones were rather droopy, I'm assuming lack of water is the main issue here. Bit of leaf bleaching on one too.
large.IMG_20230616_210439_174.jpeg
large.IMG_20230616_210519_271.jpeg

The Triton Biscotto Lime clone seems really poorly, half dead by the looks of her. Extreme leaf bleaching, some of them have gone white and papery. Really concerning. A few smaller, healthy looking leaves but I'll be surprised if this girl survives much longer.
large.IMG_20230616_210642_050.jpeg

By way of contrast, the Biddy Early 2 Fast seems really healthy. She's been nibbled a bit by insects here and there, but otherwise looking good.
large.IMG_20230616_210700_581.jpeg

The Purple Maroc Glue is amazingly lush, really seems to be thriving. She's grown a fair bit in five days too.
large.IMG_20230616_210709_978.jpeg

The C99 x Blueberry are also doing well. They've grown and seem to be happy enough here.
large.IMG_20230616_210725_542.jpeglarge.IMG_20230616_210738_108.jpeg

Here's a shot from later on, after watering, feeding and the retrofit of slug guards.
large.IMG_20230616_221149_363.jpeg

A bit of a mixed bag overall, but perhaps to be expected. Especially given some girls were in full flower when planted out. Still, some strains seem to be tougher than others. I'm really hoping the forecast rain will materialise, because this plot is so incredibly dry. The girls need some rain!

It's all coming together, you might find that some of them are suffering from Transplant Shock, some autos can be a bit touchy. I'm hopeful they'll bounce back for you and get their grow on.
