Lighting Cobshop.net info, questions and answers

The math says it decreases total light by up to 10% but all my measurements say it increased the canopy ppfd by up to 50% this is across a 3x3 area which is well outside the coverage area of the Autocob.

Reflectors are ok on certain strains but my thought is the majority don’t like the extra light.
Thanks Dude, I am going to try it without them :d5:

I just finished reading this entire thread, and I have to tell you this, these are exactly what I have been looking for as a starting point toward better LED lighting. I run a perpetual grow of photo period plants, multiple varieties. I currently use a combo of CFL's (40 watts) and LED bulbs (14.5 watts) in combination with a 4 socket fixture and "Y" adapters. Pretty ghetto, but it has gotten the job done to date. I refer to it as my "easy bake oven approach" to growing.
I am building a new cabinet, and wanted to resolve what lighting I was going to use. I almost bought a Viparspectra 600, but just couldn't pull the trigger as I kept hoping there was something that would fit my approach to growing better then a Chinese light. I looked long and hard at the DIY LED but felt it was to complicated with my limited "hands-on" technical skills. Boy am I glad I found this forum/thread. But I do have several questions after reading through this entire thread.

My new cabinet is going to be 40" wide x 23" deep x 93" high. My first thought about how much lighting I need and how to place it is that I would purchase the 4 pack of autocob's and place them as follows;
6" cob 14" cob 14" cob 6". Unless you think that having the height would allow me to place 4 of the autocob's in the cabinet around 40 watts per sq/ft. I still intend to grow photo's, but will try my first autos as well.
The second question I have (and I think I know the answer since it wasn't addressed in the thread) is are the autocob's "dimmable". By that I mean can they be driven at a lower wattage by means of a adjustment?
And If not, then it is best to raise them further from the canopy, yes? Finally, can a four pack of autocobs be bought in different light color (ie, 2@3000k and 2@3500K). This would give me some flexibility to move them
to the veg cabinet if I find that four of them is too much light.

I am sure I will have more questions, but that is all for now. This thread and your products do rock! TIA for any info you can share/

You are on the right track that’s for sure. The AutoCobs are the most universal light you can buy. High efficiency that will suit any space. As you mentioned the new cabinet upgrade, this to me is one the othe biggest benefits in the single pendants. As your space changes your lights can too. If you had a fixed frame you may not have been able to use the new space as it should ideally be used. The 4 pack is at a great price for complete lights and the added bonus of free shipping helps too. As for the spectra I’m happy you didn’t buy it. Whether you buy from me or someone else I can say very confidently that would have been a poor decision. My proof is not only in the lights extremely poor efficiency it’s based on how many of these I convert to cobs on a weekly basis and the line keeps growing. Wall wattage and actually useable par wattage are often confused. Basically 2 AutoCobs will equal the viper as far as light output goes nevermind the spectrum.

Your spacing is ideal for the cabinet and the lights coverage. You should expect a nice even high intensity across the whole space. No they are not dimmable. Dimming would require a them to be in a housing or frame. Taking away from their simplicity and beauty. As mentioned raising the lights or even unplugging some will overcome the younger plant sensitivity. Yes you can have any combination of spectrums, if I sell it I’d be happy to stick it in the box. So whatever you decide just let me know. Please feel free to fire away any questions you may have.

Thanks for the quick reply BSmO, I am going to keep poking around and see what else I can learn for now. I haven't bought the cabinet yet, so I am in no hurry. This will be my "winter project".
Absolutely. Definitely worth taking your time on. I will be around if you have any more questions.
