Lighting Cobshop.net info, questions and answers

I do like the idea of several lights, being able to position each at will. Instead of being governed by a single fixture as such. At the moment I have a vipaspectra 450 in the 2x3 which will be staying put as it does perform pretty well, I just need a bigger dedicated flower room. And I figure if I'm going to spend more money on lights I should invest in something that is going to reap rewards, I am from the UK yes.

Shipping to the U.K. Is higher. It works out best shipping wise to purchase them in even numbers as well. 1-2 cost 66.50 and 3-4 cost 86.50. Quite a bit more expensive than the posted rate but this is a direct number form the shipping company without any mark up. Not even for supplies.

I wish I have read about Cobs before I bought my LED's. I plan on getting some in the next week or two. But read you can convert Vipar to COB's? I have 2 Viparspectra Reflector -Series 600 Watt. If those can be converted I would considered doing one at a time since they are both being used at the moment. But I also like being able to place lights where and when I want. So buying 2 at a time to slowly replace or just add more of the red to my current 4x4 tent is an option. @BigSm0 Any input and or suggestions would be great. Looks like good reviews on your lights.

I did not want to discourage you by downtalking your lights. I started with LEDs from china and I grew some excellent bud and lots of it. Then I discovered cobs and built my own using citizen 1212s. These are very inexpensive compared to cree 3590s the tops in cobs at the moment. The thing is there is new technology coming out all of the time. Search for Growmau5 and watch his videos on how to build DIY cobs and other technologies. You have a lot to learn about indoor lighting. One thing I have observed is that cannabis plants will adapt to the light you give them. In the meantime there are ways to add more red to compliment your existing lights. You have a few months on this current grow to study and learn about the many lighting spectrums, PAR, PPF PPFD etc...... knowing more about this will make you a better consumer and farmer.

While light conversions do seem like the best bet you are spending quite a bit of time and money in doing so. I like to look at it as eye opening. Everyone who converts a light ends up going full cob shortly after. In the end you are using the hosing and drivers. Both of which are not ideal. Generally when I convert a light I try to save drivers for when one or more burns out. I learned this the hard way early on as I used all my mars drivers in 2 lights and later lost a driver and it put one of the lights out of commission.

In your specific situation one AutoCob will equal 2 cobs in a converted panel. The reason is the viper drivers are at a lower amperage. What I would do is try 1 or 2 autocobs and see first hand what everyone is talking about. You will see the real power we speak about, How quiet and easy to use too. In the meantime you can take down a viper and convert it if you decide thats what you would like to do.

I know now the lights have are not the best but know they will do the job for now. I did watch a couple of the videos you suggested and then kicked my self. I have a degree in Electronics I can build these if I wanted. But I do have much to learn about indoor growing and the lighting. But with what I have for lighting and what I will need is a lil different in the flowering stage, it should be enough for now but if I have the ability to get closer to ideal I think that would be best. But of course I will continue to read and view and check on tests here and other sources before I pull the trigger.

Opps kinda messed up the quote thing:
I think right now I'm looking at adding 2 by day 30-40, I'm currently day 5. My current mind set for long term is getting enough to flower and use the Vipar for veg, but subject to change about the vipars. With my limited knowledge the Vipars seem very well suited for veg and ok for flower and seems like the AC are good for both. Ill continue reading on these lights and looking more grows.

Your plan makes perfect sense. I would actually do the same in your situation. Veg with what you have. 35 or so days is enough time to learn the basics or figure out a better prebuilt light. You could always supplement with the light now too if heat and power useage isn't a concern

This you in a Moccasin Creek video? been jamming to these guys for a bit

@BigSm0 thank you for replying to me a couple weeks ago. I'm sorry I didn't reply back sooner

I'm about ready to purchase two Autocobs from you to run with my existing Epistar LED.

I'll have grow profits in a week. Week and a half. But I'm just letting you know I'll be buying !
