I HATE DWC because of all the damned fussing trying to maintain PH
As mentioned with quality nutes they appear to stay buffered, and if they are out of range you can adjust and know it's right. With soil don't you have to wait till you get the run off. Yes? No?
@Nosias I’m running a cheap DWC system as an experiment right now. All in, I think I spent $15 for two complete buckets with an air pump and tubing. It is not a recirculating system. Just a simple bucket with a bubbler in it. You should give it a quick try.
It’s pretty simple aside from checking pH every day. I haven’t had to adjust my nutes yet. I’m using Mega Crop. Right after mixing, they come out at 5.9 and the most upward drift I’ve seen so far is 0.2. That’s not even enough for me to adjust anything. Then again, I’ve only gone through one res change so far. We’ll see if I’m singing the same tune in a month or so.
I have upped my pH to 6.2 and none of the new leaves are showing any of the occasional copper spots I was getting that looked like Calcium deficiency. However I've been giving this some thought, and I am wondering if my set up which is like a hybrid DWC and inert media, is actually more like inert media. Because my roots do not sit inside the reservoir which is entirely separate they come out of the pot and sit on the bottom of the container, and are always wet with nutes but never soaking in it.
Sounds like you have a winner. I know you are growing well by your posts. Keep using what you are happy with. Glad to have another report that MegaCrop drops ph and keeps it in range.
GH also drops the pH automatically from 7 to 6.5 and I then take it down to 6.3
If you have some spare bud and you want to make what I call 'honey oil' try this, you only get about 3 grams from an ounce of top quality heads. All you need is say a litre of pure ethanol. This is of course not easy to get. But CSR sugar company, although they would not sell me any actually gave me a 1L sample. It's very wasteful because I just evaporated it away, rather than collect it in a still. So this is real ghetto tech. The other ingredient is just activated charcoal ground to a fine powder in a mortar and pestle.
Ok let the buds dry out naturally till they are completely over dried then they can be crumbled into a fine power. Put this powder in a jar with the alcohol, and a few tablespoons of powdered activated charcoal. Put on the lid and shake it vigorously. The solution will be completely black. Then filter it through some course filter paper but enough to stop the charcoal. What comes out is a sort of pale amber liquid. Just put it on a plate and let it evaporate naturally.
wa la, instand 'honey oil', it leaves no residue when smoked.
I couldn’t agree more. I get sciatica, sore back, and muscle spasms from time to time. There’s nothing better then this fine herb for relieving those symptoms. The vape juice is near instant..... the edibles helps me sleep during bouts of sciatica.
When I woke up in hospital 25 years ago (after a nurse T boned me as I was driving past the hospital) with a metal rod down my tibia and two screws holding it in place, I was given a do it yourself morphine drip, however I hardly uses it as that shit makes me so nauseous. I was constantly nauseous and not eating. Until the gf finally was able to take me out of the grounds in a wheelchair where I could enjoy a sly smoke of the top quality dope I was growing at home. Instantly nausea was gone and appetite was back. They gave me all sorts of drugs for the nausea like 'stemetil' but none of them worked.
Next pics will be on Tuesday 23 when they will be 4 weeks old. Thanks for dropping in.
I don't know how you do it, I've been a complete photo whore, but it just reflects my actual practice of spending time staring at them every day.
Thanks for sharing your info. I agree that it’s under the limit as well!
I usually shoot for 6 and then it drifts up to 6.3. Maybe just setting 6.3 would be best. I don’t have enough experience to be certain though. Sounds like you and
@pop22 share the same ideas on PH
This forum is great for sharing info and learning. Love it!
This AFN site is without any doubt the best of the lot. Rollitup had too many sarcastic childish d/heads, 420 site are too precious you can't even say 'fuck', think of the little children!,
I have been growing hydro for years. Regardless to your research I can verify the range for hydro in cannabis is 5.5 to 6.5. If you get outside of this range you will have troubles. As a practical application I run 5.6 to 6.2 This gives me a little leeway top and bottom. I also Make my PH roam around in the range. This allows the PH to pass through the best uptake zones for all of the nutrients over a couple of days.
The reason for different PH for soil vs Hydro has to do with the osmotic pressure and the ionic root uptake. It is very complex chemistry. I read it once years ago. A lot of it just shot over my head but by the end of the scholarly article I just accepted it as good science.
As I said, I have a feeling that my hydro is somehow more like inert soil.
