New Grower Chiefs 1st grow - Northern Lights and Ultraviolet

Yeah, you can definitely see a noticeable difference in how much they have grown in the last two days. And I'll give them some tap water next time I water and see what happens...maybe the tap water will have have some natural organisms that will help the plants grow better until I can start feeding them some grow nutes.

And how are your seedlings coming along by the way?

Chief-age.... Sadly, there's no beneficial bacteria in tap water for plants, just the kind that might roil your guts! Remember, you soil is fine for a couple weeks more or so,... My crew is doing great; the weather has been perfect for acclimating them,... my soil seems to need a pH tweek down though..... so I'm off to check options out! :smoke:

Day 16/17 since it's about 2:45ish in the A.M. where I'm at.

Both the NL and the UV have been growing like crazy over the past few days, but it seems like there's something a little off about them and I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what's causing it. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but if anyone has any input on what it is or if what I'm seeing is nothing to be alarmed about I would greatly appreciate it. :D

NL 2013-04-09_02-27-00_44.jpg 2013-04-09_02-27-13_732.jpg The other issue is that these two bottom leaves are starting to develop some spots on the tips of both leaves (not sure if anyone can make it out in the pics), but all of the other leaves look fine to me.

And the leaves on the UV are curved upwards something horrible. I know that they do point up when they are happily soaking up the lumens, but in this case it looks a little excessive because the leaves are twisting as well.

UPDATE

The spots on the bottom leaves seem to be getting bigger and spreading to the other leaves. I have no clue what the issue could be since I don't have a PH meter. But like I said in the last post, I haven't been giving them much water in fear of over watering them so today is the normal time that I usually give them water so I gave them more than I usually do. I watered them until I got a little bit of runoff, so hopefully that might fix the issue unless the PH levels are off but at this point I have no way to tell.

That's what I was going to say to do..give them a full watering with about 10% runoff. They should react really well to it.

Also, remember overwatering is caused by watering too frequently not by how much water you actually give the plant

That's one of the questions that I could never get a clear answer to. For me I was never worried about the frequency because I have been able to control the impulse to want to water them all the time, but I was concerned about giving them too much water at one time so every time i watered I haven't been giving them enough to get anywhere close to having any runoff until today because I was scared that I was going to drown them. So thank you for clearing that up for me . Hopefully now that I know I can give them a larger amount of water, maybe it will help speed up the growth.

it depends on the pot size if youre starting a seedling in a 5 gal container then you have to limit how much each time too as they wont suck up enough themselves and evaporation wont draw out enough to stop it getting waterlogged. small pots with good drainage will dry quicker so not so much of a problem.

got any clearer pics of the spots on the leaves? out of focus i cant see much, looks like it could just be marks from water getting on the leaves and burning from the lights.
id say get a ph pen soon as you can. itll be the difference between a small problem easily fixed and a mystery problem that will just keep deteriorating.

For sure!! After you give them a good watering like that, all you have to do is wait for the soil to dry out again. I usually water my girls every 3-4 days. Glad I could help!!
I would also transfer them ASAP into bigger pots
Remember: seedlings need to be watered different than a 2-3 week old plant
