Dutch Passion CBD Kush & Blueberry Scrog under a GN Rebel

Cheers dude, your set up is looking sweet, nice and clean. Yeah man this is very interesting i wasnt aware that photos were so hard on mg, especially so early. This is earlier than an auto for sure?

I have a feeling it would look about the same with autos. I had similar issues last grow, they started a bit later though. Most likely because I used a CFL for the first week. This grow I made the mistake of running the LED too low in the beginning but other than that I can't figure out what it is in my setup that makes me so prone to mag issues.

I've subbed up dirty budster. Good luck, hope you sort out the Mag problems.

Thanks revert! I really hope I can sort it out as well.

I gave them another feeding yesterday with a full dose of veg nutes and a double dose of cal-mag. They took about 1.5l until run-off. The run-off was a bit high at pH 6.8-6.9 so I will be dropping the pH of the next feed. Hopefully I will see some improvement over the next few days.

good luck bud, often the plants grow the these issues. Sometimes the apparent deficiencies in nutrients can indeed be pH related. In other words the nutrients are there, but simply not available due to the pH being e.g. too high

Thanks for stopping by Tony!

I was worried I might be dealing with some kind of lock-out but I've seen quite a bit of improvement in the 2 days since the feeding so I think they're recovering. Especially the 2 plants on the right were looking pretty stunted but they've started growing again. I noticed a bit of clawing on some of the fan leaves so it might have been a wee bit heavy in N. They're still pale looking though, I suppose it takes some time for the nutes to be absorbed.

Day 39

I gave them another feeding 2 days ago. I watered with a full dose veg nutes, full dose cal-mag and 1 tsp epsom salt per gallon (actually 10ml epsom salt in 8l of water) at pH6.1. I'm hoping to get more magnesium in the soil that way without out having to add a ton of calcium at the same time. There's been a good amount of growth since the last update, especially in the 2 days since the watering. The side shoots have started poking through the screen. They're paler than I'd like so it seems they could use more N still. I'm having trouble keeping up with the nutes since they're still taking 5-6 days to dry out so I can't water as often as I would like. Hopefully that will be faster now that the plants are a bit bigger.

If it works out with the epsom salt I think I will use them from the beggining on next time. I'm thinking that there might be too much calcium for some reason and that is locking out the magnesium. Otherwise I can't figure out why I run into these issues so early in the grow.

I might have to flip them to 12/12 soon as the screen is starting to fill up. I was hoping to have them a nice dark green before the flip but I don't think I can wait that long. The main shoots are pretty long already, especially CBD1, so I turned it 90 degrees and started training it towards the center of the screen. Having no experience with photos it's hard for me to estimate how big they will get after the flip. I would like to have the tops about 20-25 cm above the screen. CBD1 is about 35-40 cm tall/long at the moment and I can let it grow another 15 cm across the screen and then 20-25 cm above the screen. If they double in size during pre-flower I think I have to flip them in the next 1-2 days. Any hints here would be helpful.

Day 46/3

The tent was starting to fill up so I flipped them into flower 2 days ago. They seem to be doing ok at the moment. Still fighting the mag def though. Last feeding was a full dose of bloom nutes, full dose of cal-mag plus 2 tsp of Epsom salt per gallon at a pH of 6.2, run-off was 6.6-6.7. The epsom salt definitely seems to help but it looks like they could still use a bit more. I think next feeding I will skip the cal-mag and use Epsom salt only and see if that works better. As far as I have read, 3 things can lock-out Mg, low pH, too much calcium or too much nitrogen. The pH is rather on the high side and I don't think they're getting too much Nitrogen as they're not very dark green and there is no clawing. That would leave too much calcium. I just don't know why that would be the case. The water here is not that hard. I figure if watering with only Epsom salt works better then that would indicate a problem with too much calcium.

They've started the pre-flower stretch, especially the side shoots have grown quite a lot. I'm still trying to figure out how to place the tops so it's a bit messy in the tent at the moment. There is a good amount of bud sites so if I can just finally manage to put an end to the Mg def I think it could turn out pretty well.

And finally a picture from today:

Day 49/6

They started stretching quite a lot, especially the side shoots. The Mg def looks to be mostly resolved after two feedings with 2tsp/gallon of Epsom salts. Seems they were just really in the mood for magnesium  It's starting to get pretty crowded in the tent and I have a feeling they will keep me busy for the next couple of weeks. I'm still working out how to distribute the tops evenly across the screen. In previous grows I sometimes had trouble getting the side shoots up to the screen. This time they're growing so much that the screen around the main stem is almost empty. I might have to let the plants grow into each other a bit. At least it's finally starting to look like a real scrog :dance2:

I shot a bunch of pictures today, I hope some of them show up as I've been having a lot of trouble viewing pictures lately.

Wow man they are looking great now. Good to see you have cleared up the problem and also a good lesson learned about the girls craving mg first and maybe cal a bit later. I seem to remember this happening with most of my dp autos that i have grown too.

Thanks Grim, I was surprised how quickly they bounced back once they got enough magnesium. The only thing that still bugs me a bit is that I'm still not sure why this keeps happening. At least now I know how to resolve it.

They're really stretching now. I'm constantly pulling tops under and moving them around. I just have to figure out at which point to let them go. I think once they start to get a decent amount of pistils it might be time to stop training them.

yo budster, full looking tent heh ! lets hope it all buds up to plan, good luck with it

Thanks Tony and thanks for the rep! Yup, it's starting to get pretty full  Curious to see how long they continue to stretch. It's getting difficult to tell which top is coming from which plant.
