Indoor Canadian Winter grow

Nice pictures. They look pretty healthy. I would make sure you don't get any larvae in the substrate. It would be a shame to have your crop take a nose dive because of bugs at this point. Those yellow stickies don't do shit in my opinion. I just use them to detect bugs only.

Looks like you are using HP promix. That stuff sucks man. Too much chance of getting bugs with that stuff which is probably why you have gnats. I aborted grows because that shit sucks so bad for bugs. Aborted grows are not good. Waste of resources and time. I find coco is far, far superior to promix. Canna coco bricks are cheap and fantastic. I ran in to a guy last week in a hydro shop in Calgary that was having issues and talking to the sales peeps. I took him off to the side and talked to him, found out he was using promix last couple of grows and his plants were never good right out of the gate. I gave him some coco and he dropped his latest germed taproots in to solo cups with the coco and he says its night and day how much better they are doing compared to promix and that is just after a couple of days of the seedlings being above ground. Needless to say, he threw out his bale of promix. Why take the chance is all I can say.

I normally do use HP but I started this grow late into the season and couldn’t get a hold of any. Found a new one be called Root Farms Hydro Soil at Canadian Tire. I was sceptical but needed something. You’re probably right though, I assumed it was soil related but also first organic grow so was thinking possibly because of the organic amendments I added during mix.

I plan on growing a few outside and was leaning towards the same medium but thinking I might switch up the base. Coco ok to use outdoors? Would be a first for me.

I got bugs in my only organic soil grow too. I've also amended organics in to coco but that never worked well for me and do not recommend doing that even though it sounds promising.

I would think if you put coco in a container you can use it outdoors. And get the Canna brand of bricks. They are good and available all over. It doesnt need to be rinsed. Just hydrate in 1/4 strength nute water.

On a side note your thread inspired me to send email to Gaia Green to find out if their products are pasteurized prior to sale I suspect the gnat larva was already in the soil if you plan to use more you could get an oven bag mix your soil and amendments pop it in the oven once it reaches 160F internal temp set a timer for 30 min let cool overnight folks who cultivate mushrooms and forums about that hobby have loads of great info on pasteurizing soils or as they call it bulk substrate

If you are in Canada and looking for Coco shipping is free and the supplier and seller are both Canadian companies

I have to get some of that. And since they are not from Quebec the company doesn't fall in to my "Boycott Quebec" list and its OK to buy it!
This is a link to the companies website and the page that explains in detail what their coco product is.

Well it’s been 3 weeks since my last update and I think you will all be impressed with the progress.

Keeping in mind my diy setup-it goes to show with a little TLC, you can reap the benefits of these amazing plants fairly easily.

Day 62 from sprout
Skywalker from Mephisto on the left and king Louie (Puff Puff Pass)on the right.

Nothing but straight tap water that sits out for 2 days or so before watering. I have mixed in a concentrated sea weed extract 3 or 4 times for some extra boost to the root zone as well. The 4-4-4 Gaia Green granular organic amendment mixed into the soil at the start is the food source.

This is my first time working with organic amendments and let me tell you...I am SOLD!!

I haven’t started checking the trichs yet but from the naked eye they’re mostly clear with some cloudy mixed in. I am thinking give or take a couple weeks and they should be ready to come down.

Stay Tuned!!

Thank You!!

That’s the thing that I’ve fallen in love with the organic side, very low maintenance and the results have been exceptional for me. Other than some minor issues at the start (under/over watering) and the gnats that have been dealt with , very easy from the beginning.

Drying and curing is where I have had some trouble in the past so I’m hoping I can nail that part this time around.

Beauty plants crags

Seeing those damn gnats you had earlier put me off from picking up a bag of that soil but looks like i'm damn well grabbing a bag or two of it now! I'll be using the gaia green 4-4-4 also for my next grow but will be top dressing with the 2-8-4 later on in bloom to fatten the ladies up.
