so if you use organics in say tap water that is treated with trace amounts of chlorine your basily killing your nutes. for instance i use genral organics go box which has a little of eveythign in it. being organic i use phed tap water so am i essentialy fucking my self?

I stand corrected on microbe levels, that's why I love links and well thought out discourse.

Mydank, bottled organic nutes are different than true living organics. I wouldn't worry that hard but you would do yourself a favor by bubbling your water for 24 hours. If your city uses chloramine bubbling won't do anything and you should either buy a filter or be a cheap lazy pig like me and buy two gallon spring water at the store.

Yep, a healthy organic soil and chlorine don't mix. You can let the tap water sit out overnight or bubble it to get the chlorine out. But that's only if your tap water contains chlorine and not chloramine, which is a combination of ammonia and cholorine that does not evaporate. Around 25% of US municipal water systems use it, including mine. If you can't figure out whether yours does based on an online water report, you can call your water company and ask. Just tell them you have an aquarium and you're worried about chloramine killing your fish, and they should be able to give you an answer.

If you do have chloramine in your water, the easiest way to get rid of it is an aquarium treatment product like Amquel. It breaks down the chloramine into chlorine and ammonia, which then leaves the water through evaporation. Since I began treating my water after my first grow, my plants have been much healthier.

Yeah, I was doing the bottled water thing myself once I figured out I had chloramine in my water. My last house had a well so I never thought about it. Once I moved to a place with city water, I found that my homebrew beer was all going to crap, even though I was doing everything the same. My local hydro store is also my homebrew store, so they set me straight right away. The shitty thing is that an RO filter won't even remove chloramine - you've got to have some sort of special membrane that costs way too much money. So after doing some more research and emailing a bunch of nute companies, I came across the Amquel solution. Apparently chloramine is all over the place in Cali, so it's a pretty common solution out there. It's safe for fish, amphibians, and plants, and it doesn't contain salts like some of the other water treatments. For $10 you can get enough to treat something like 1000 gallons, so it's about as easy and affordable as you can get.

Hold the fucking phone, hydro/homebrew store? You lucky bastard.

thanks for the info andy i didnt know how to remove that chem yet and thats a great solution.

Budz..this thread had been reported for Playground Behaviour...Personal Insults..

I can't find the original post..so it May have been edited..we DO have the original in Mods..

I didn't say to drink the tea, dumbass. Please refrain from talking out of your ass, if I wanted to hear that I would have farted.
Now go take your store bought compost and store bought guanos somewhere else. I am talking about real organics, and recycling my family's organic wastes. Fucking yuppie.

There is some Good info here and good debate..Opposing Views and Open Minds get Work done IMO...

Having to resort to personal insults when somone has an opposing view is not cool..it makes the poster look inadequate and immature..

Don't spoil it .........huh.......:smokebuds:

Keep the Vibe..

Thanks AndyBotwin for the AmQuel details. Here is a link with the specs:

note: Possible added benefit--product may help drop PH if water is more on alkaline side. Can you confirm AndyB.
