Calling out bad Autoflower genetics/actors

I'm fortunate that I haven't had a bad experience personally with roc, but it's pretty clear many have. The guy just isn't a business person imo, he's winging it on several fronts and it shows.
No Not a bad experience But I try not to promise things I can't hold my end up too and Roc likes to say things then not follow thru.
No worries I get it He's super busy and I am just 1 person.

Let me just add that I have loved EVERY strain I have gotten from @RocBudInc. I have no issues with his seeds just his Customer service.

I saw the guys from ChemD at the Harvest cup 2 years ago. Between the 3 of them they kept the same Cut alive for 31 years and I think atleast 2 of them went to Jail during that time. Crazy!

...

So a few days ago, as Darkhorse Genetics and Night Owl spin up their Dark Owl collabs, DHG made a post about "fake autoflower breeders" on IG, which was quickly moderated into nothingness, within an hour. In that post, he said there are essentially two types of autoflower breeder/seller right now: 1. The banks using a white label or shortcut seedstock and calling it whatever... Auto Gelato, Auto Runtz, Auto Bruce Banner #3 (his point of contention, obviously), etc. and 2. Small breeders showing their work and making craft-quantity runs of true auto genetics.

...

Here's the podcast from last night where he went in depth on some of the bullshit that's out there. Well worth a watch if you're new to buying seeds online, IMO. I've only gotten took once to my knowledge, but even that pisses me off to this day. The more you know, and all.

I had come to the conclusion that most Auto's are not the same as their photo namesake original. That is okay as long as they are good.
But I would agree when you order from most of the big seed vendors that have their own private labels, it ain't going to happen. I now tend to buy strains that are not named after a photo. That being said I do like fast buds and seed stockers. I am growing some FB Strawberry Banana right now.

In the podcast he calls out a Bruce Banner Auto sold by a major vendor here as being fake too.

Makes me wonder about any of the "name" strains being sold by the major breeding companies. Unless you're buying seeds directly from the breeder of the "named" strain you have no way of knowing if the named strains are really even being used.

Great thread guys and a real eye opener. It's something that I really wish wasn't an issue that I had to concern myself about. I'm not surprised though, nearly everything involved in this industry is sold by rats with gold teeth.
I love weed but it's always been an industry infested with scumbags.

I’m less than a year into buying seeds and growing, so I’m no expert, but for me at this point, I’m not trusting any “Auto-xxx”named cultivars, or anything from an auto breeder who doesn’t explicitly show/describe their work.I have already bought a Barney’s Runtz Auto and a Fast Buds Auto Chemdawg, but that’s it for me. It seems like the breeders with integrity like Meph, Night Owl, Gnome, etc go out of their way to describe the initial cut and the traits they selected for in the conversion process. Absent that info, I’m assuming the worst from now on.

From my perspective its near impossible to have an auto version just for the simple fact that you have to cross it to a ruderalis plant to get the auto recessive. I've thought of using a Siberian auto to the cuts but is that any different? Traits will still be passed on. So my real question is what cultivar is being used to produce the auto? I think mephisto does it best their showing their line. Even with them they have breeding autos they used in their original crosses. Now they use existing cultivars in there line but its not the same as the pure cut or line. That said I do love autos and will judge each strain on its own merit.

According to Jason/DarkHorse, most are white labeled “autoflowers” bred by 5 breeders in Europe and repackaged with the flavors du jour. Reminds me of an old Simpsons episode.

I've been under the assumption for a bit, that most of the “breeders” mentioned here recently since all got seeds from the same place and relabeled them. So...I believe Errors seeds are the exact same, except like 1/2 the price. I have a freebie Errors "Orange Bud" that I would wager is the same as FB Orange Sherbet. I happen to be growing Sherbet right now. I will have to make notes and grow "Orange Bud" down the line to compare.
