Calling out bad Autoflower genetics/actors

I'm a new grower and want to learn more about plant genetics and breeding. I also want to grow strains that are unique.
I have several neighbors that grow and they all have cookies this and blueberry that, or cake something.
It's the same at the dispensaries on the reservation.
They all have the same thing.

Point me I the right direction to learn the basics.
Where can I get the knowledge to choose based on correct breeder information and not just a colorful name.

Regarding the dispensary/legal sales preoccupation or fixation on THC levels:

In my East Coast state, the dispensaries' (still medical only) "flower" products are good/OK (as good as I grow), but all look the same (to me), have same high and comparable potency, with smell/taste being the only differentiator among the products. It seems the strains have been bred/selected (besides high THC) for high, to me often clearly excessive, levels of terpenes, with overly strong smells and often excessive terpenes to the point of throat and nasal passage irritation.

With no real strain info available, with all the products hermetically sealed, with no options to look at or smell the products (in my state), and with only a minority of customers, here medical users, being knowledgable consumers, all that dispensaries can sell based on and customers can go by are THC levels and claims about smells/tastes. Related to this, novices apparently associate stronger smells/tastes with product potency and quality.

Breeding can be more addictive than growing. Rule of thumb is if u put gold in u can get gold out.if u want to make some of the best crosses u have to start with superb seeds. True high grade regs are the gift that keeps on giving. I've made thousands of beans w stellar results on the regular. My work speaks for it self w out glorified promotion. A cross at F1 isnt homogeneous but this doesn't exclude it from being absolutely amazing. Many of the fan favorites from mephisto ,subcool and ethos among countless others are F1. I personally love the hybrid vigor they can display. Also I prefer regs over fem beans in general.

I can inquire about where AoF is being sold if you like-
I think Bald Monkey Seeds is the place, same guy own/owned Derg Corra... It's his good friend who's family in Paki' that is the source of AoF, literally the friends Aunt and Uncle's farm!
I wish Stickman didn't flame out here, he has some Helman Prov. sourced seeds from Baldy as well...

That could be a nice cross pop! Have a look at DP's sole fast version Think Fast, she's a winner, and a could be a great match with her Sati-dom heritage... Mine showed good mold resistance too...

both (AoF and helmand) are in stock at seedheaven.net ;)
nordicgenetics also has them listed but they're out of stock there.

NST is all high grade regs and 100%auto

IMO I think it all boils down to what is being represented and what your expectations are.
