Awesome, imformative thread, HGRx.

Ive seen plant preserving kits at Wally World that use silica gel to evisserate em. I think yer looking for something that plastisizes em, and I dont have a clue about that. I wonder how a jar of alcohol or fermaldhide would work?

How do you keep yer plants so compact and tight? Ive never seen plants so dense before. Is it a growing TEK or is it a trait of the strain?

Thanks for the thread. Ive been curious about CS, but right now Im unable to play around w/ it, so its great to follow along w/ you. +Rep 4U

I totally do the same tecnique and agree with your time frame. I make my own CS also and try for 200 ppm concentration. What concentration do you use. I have had no herm problem also. I operate in SOG bubble tank and totally agree males are a total pain in the ass. I still do some standard breeding but I am leaning twards Fem production to be my main breeding after this year. I also get offers from others now to do their fem breeding for them as with autos it just totally makes sence not to waiste your time and grow space with a lot of useless males to grow and throw away.

QUOTE=HomeGrownRx;92430]Its ok pippik, i appreciate your interest! There are numerous ways to make feminized seeds. The route that im experimenting with is using a product called "colloidal silver" which ive made into a spray.

The colloidal siver spray (referred to as CS) is sprayed on a female autoflower plant starting the day that it is confirmed female. in my last post i mentioned that i had buds growing on my califlower at 14 days this is when i started spraying the whole plant down with the CS. It too 4 weeks from the first time i sprayed but the plant eventually started growing into a male and at 4 weeks was releasing pollen. This intersex plant (the one sprayed with cs and releasing pollen) is used to pollinate all the other females. The result is seeds growing on the female plants which when germinated will result in female only plants (or very close to that). i may have a few feminized seeds as early as a week from now (probably 2 weeks). when i harvest them ill pop em asap to confirm they are female. i expect them to be 100% female. i plan to never grow males again.

a lot of people dont like female seeds, especially people afraid of herms forming. Ive popped several feminized seeds in my time and have yet to have a problem. i guess we will see! Im keeping several hundred seeds of every generation but i dont expect there to ever be a herm problem.[/QUOTE]

i keep meaning to buy a tds meter but im pretty low on cash so i keep putting it off. enough excuses, its time to get one.

thanks for the comments on the nodal spacing, its something ive put a lot of thought into. most of my plants in this thread are under CFL at 125w per sq ft or more. the two in the picture that you posted are actually from under my 400w hps but they were to far from the light in my opinion.

Genetics as well as keeping the lights real bright are key. to keep them short you use short/wide pots to make them small use small pots. my afghan kush ryder and santa grow was incredibly compact, they were 6" tall with lst and BAP. They also were grown in something like 2 gallons of soil at 3 inches or so deep. BAP is incredibly helpful in keeping your plants small. as soon as my current wave of 50 seeds reach sex ill be doing bap experiments.

Thanx, HG. Some of mine get so lanky they tip over. Part of my problem is I have some photos under my lamp ATM that are 3' tall. I should prob put my smaller plants on a pedastal to keep em closer to the light. I cant get over how dense and compact yours are. Very, very nice.

Pardon my noobiness, what is BAP? (Its too short a 'word' to search on the SE....)

BAP is 6-benzylaminopurine. its a chemical that stunts vertical growth, increases flowering and increases bushiness to the same extent that pruning does. its sorta similar to things like bushmaster and dr. node.

i guess i havent posted pics in a while so heres some. these are getting close to or just 2 months from seed. i used 1 gallon pots with a lot of rocks for drainage, and not full of dirt, im guessing around 1/2gal of soil. these were selected out of i think a total of 20 plants. ive been selecti for super short and compact. im really loooking forward to finding out home much these solid 4 ounce califlower colas weigh.

as you can see the cs treated ones are releasing tons of pollen. the pollinated females are covered in seeds. im not sure how mnay seeds ill get from each plant but they are worth much more than thiere weight in gold. since these are feminized and a more refined hybrid im hoping to sell them at the clubs for $8 a seed instead of the $4 the f1 regulars are going for. im guessing 500 seeds on average per plant. i have 7 plants in my 3sq foot box, 2 are cs treated, 2 were started to late (it is experimental remember) but the other 3 will each put out 500 or so. thats about 70 days from seed to mature seed, 1500+ feminized seeds in 3 sq feet with 300w of cfl.

today i was looking for pots for my next grow. i think im going with a 5 gallon so i can show the opposite end of the size spectrum with these califlower. i love that they can be so small, these are 4" for gods sake you can grow that anywhere! But now i want some large multiple ounce ones. Im hoping to eventually secure a plant that scales perfectly, hopefully these calis will do so easily.

Great posts. The rocks that you use for drainage are they rocks that you can pick up from anywhere (parks or what not)

Thanks for the education! Im learning new stuff everyday! The way this "hobby" progresses, we'll never get bored w/ it!

hell no we will never get bored! there is sooo many experiments that i want to run, so many strains i want to try and so much more plant traits to achieve.

The rocks i use are called sonoma rosa but any rocks will work for drainage. i like to use 1/4 or 3/8 size rock. as long as it stops the soil from falling out the holes in the bottom of the pot. its amazing the difference in drainage that is accomplished with an inch or 2 of rocks on the bottom.

Thanks dude. So you don't mix the rocks just let them be at the bottom?
thanks again

yea i just put an inch or 2 of rocks on the bottom. soil goes right on top of that. ive also been trying a layer of coo coir on top of the rocks as well. This works like a reservoir, allowing for less frequent watering.
