Welcome it afn! Just saw this and thought I'd chime in, I'm still a bit of a noob too.

Limeis a must, also cal mag. My soil is always heading down on the ph scale throughout the grow which leads to cal mag defiencies which leads to crappy looking leaves. Lime in your soil mix will buffer that tendency.
Lime explainations

Also consider throwing up a plywood box, or get a grow tent, if there's a big enough closet in the room as well. I've never grown in a whole room, but it seems to me it'd be easier to control the environment if it's a small one, especially for your first grow, mainly smell issues. You,ll be blowing all that cooled air out your window for ventilation.

Did you put the paper towels in a small Tupperware? Seeds need to be warm dark, and humid. Also spring water rather than tap for the seeds. Also how wet? They should be damp not dripping. I killed 10 seeds my first try.

Thanks for the welcome and chiming in!

I'm ordering cal/mag stuff this week along with the last few things I'll be needing. Still haven't found the lime but I haven't given up yet!

With my AC that I'm using the temps and humidity have been great and very stable so I'm not to worried about it but I'll be adding my 600w light today so we'll see how it goes. The smell isn't so much of an issue as my room is located atleast a mile from the nearest neighbor but I will be adding a filter.

I've always used the paper towel in a baggie method in the past and it's never failed but I'll be trying different ways this time so I'll try the tupperware method.

Thanks again everyone!

The Baggie is the same idea. Just sealing in the moisture.

I'm in need of some help here. I've got a few plants started. Temps are stable and humidity is fine. pH is good and all. My seedlings are about a week old and for no reason one of them just laid over and the other looked like it dried out in the middle of its stem? Only thing I can think is that I accidentally left my light on 100% for a few days instead of the 50% it had been at.

From what I've read I should just prop the plant up until It has a stronger stem? My 600w is a little under 2ft away from the plant. I'd put it closer but it gets to hot. Thinking about an air cooled hood?

Thinking it might be a pH problem? I'll be trying to adjust it with Hydrated Lime because I haven't been able to find any dolomite lime.

Would it be ok to mist just once a day? Or maybe every couple of days? Lost another 2 seedlings to whatever it is :(

If you can't do it a couple times a day, some is better than none. Otherwise stick to muddy's advice: it's golden.

Thanks Hugo & Muddy! I gave them their first spraying today so we'll know soon if thats what was causing it. So far Ive lost a total of 3 seedlings to this same thing. Such a pain and I'll be so thankful if this solves it. Thanks again!

Update! Kinda... Nothing new really except my oldest sprout (almost a week old) is still kicking and another that sprouted Saturday is still up and looking ok. I figure by Thursday or Friday I'll know if this spray works or if I'll have to start spraying it more. That's about all I have to update about.

I do have a question about RO filters and such. Would they help with the pH of my water?
