Day 135, June 12

IT'S A HERMIE!

Well I guess I'm going to chalk this one up to learning some lessons. It was bound to happen. Ok here goes. I was going to harvest today. I was looking at trichomes and saw a good amount of amber so I figured it was time. I started to trim a cola and broke off a little bit of what I thought was bud and started to find seeds. I even heard some drop to the floor. Well I stopped trimming and thought I better turn to the community for advice. I put her/him back in my grow tent. What does the operating manual say to do from here? Every time I've read about a hermied plant basically it said to throw it away. I always would think that if you grow only one plant do you have to throw it away? Here are my questions.

Do I have any thing here that can be smoked?

If so should I harvest now and should I be harvesting any differently? Should I cure any differently?

Are the seeds any good? Will they all become hermies if grown? Remember this is a photoperiod plant. At the moment some are brown, some are green. ( From the looks of it I am going to have a shit ton of seeds.)

I only grow one plant at a time. Has my grow space become contaminated for another grow?

I think that's all I have for now.

Here's my evening in pictures.

Was going to harvest. Trichomes have right amount of amber.

So I started to trim and....

Close up for science.

Im sorry to hear about the hermie. I dont think seeds will be good but try the smoke. I wouldn't think its bad, just seedy.

Well if your not into smoking seeded bud, hash it up or turn into rosin. The seeds, if you think it got hit by something special/different I'd try them. If they selfed, then I wouldn't bother. Remember there are strains that are award winning that started as hermie disasters

Not that I'm eager to grow a photoperiod plant any time soon. Some of the googling research I've read suggests that all seeds from a hermied plant will be feminized. Also If the plant hermied due to stress the seeds are less likely to turn into hermies as well? I'm pretty sure I stressed the hell out of this plant with the topping and multiple defoliation trying the mainlining technique. Plus I didn't figure in the lost grow time due to stunting and pretty sure I pushed the Kind Soil to its limit.

It's funny but all of the articles or blogs or videos talking about hermies puts it in the context of growing in an environment with other plants. That puts a pretty negative spin on things for sure. I've yet to find someone talking about it as a single plant in a single plant environment where screwing up the rest of the crop isn't a factor.

All that being said I'm making a return to autos big time!

I know some breeders use a late harvest technique to feminize (Soma). He leaves em till they throw nanners and uses the pollen. From that I would think that it would be same boat, however I'm no expert. Welcome back to the auto-side!
