Hi everyone!

About to harvest a few buds and do a test dry today in these brown pape (food grade) bags before i do the real harvest. I worry they might be a little thin but dont have many other easily accessible options. have few shopping bags but idk if they are suitable or not.

1) The temperature and humidity of the room where they will dry will be about 22c and 40% RH. Should I try to go a bit colder? No idea what conditions in the bag will be but been told not to worry about .

2) Is it better to suspend the brown bags in the air and have a fan pointed above them? Or just leave them on a surface with a fan pointed above them? Any fan advice besides fact to not have it blowing directly on the brown paper bags?

3) Worth sticking a RH meter into the brown bag? Is this helpful at all or am i just waiting for the buds to be crisp on the outside and break from the small stems (which i keep on?)?

4) Just leave the small stems on buds right? or completely remove all stems and pure buds in the bag?

5) i am harvesting the buds from plant, optionally trimming and then putting them straight into the brown bags right?

Thank you in advance! :smoking:

lucky thing is i have just took 2 plants down last night i do mine sometimes i just put 2 big colas minus the fan leaves just on the bottom of the bag so just 1 layer or as in the pic i just cover the bottom of the base of the bag and just fold to the top over and i wont check them for about 4 days and say at day 2 i give the bag a little shake to move the buds around .also I've hung the bags and left them just on the floor with no difference at all and I never put a fan over the bags either also you will notice by about day 4 they will start to feel dry on the outside and now is the time to keep on top of them and just use your own judgement as to when to jar them up

Also heres another pic of bigger stuff but as long as I'm just covering the bottom of the bag it's just the same if there golf ball sized of big they just may take longer to dry .also the link I sent you even has a vid I just followed that tutorial

Thanks mate. Got an RH meter next to the bag (between 19-21c and 40-50% RH). Will stick one in the bag as well as there is space. I didnt tightly pack it as only a test and lots of extra room (next time will get smaller bags or pack it more) so may dry quicker than usual. No fan whatsoever except there is an aircon in the room but not directly on the bag.

Thanks so much again! This was all very useful! Let's see how they turn out! First buds I've ever grown and harvested. Tomorrow off to buy some jars and if this method works will harvest everything else in following days with perfect timing according to my newly acquired loupe.

@St. Tom Would you recommend rubber seal or normal screw lids for mason jars?

Buy mason jars(old style, I still have shite my great grandma gave me in mason jars 15years ago, unfortunately red beats not weed) they are air tight and designed for storing food/weed and last until you break them. Paper bags are awesome mate but I find the paper will suck moisture out faster than dry racks so keep an eye on them.

Thanks for contributing mate. Appreciate it. Found these 1L jars and will pick up a dozen tomorrow. Also have some Integra Boost 8g in case i over-dry when testing this method. Will check on the buds once a day for this first time, especially as i put so little in the bag given its size. Outer bag temp will vary between 18-21c so hopefully the cool will slow it down a bit. If it works ok then I'll dry/cure all the flowers from this harvest the same way. and may do a small test with hang drying and compare. Interesting to see RH/temp inside the bag when i open it tomorrow. Studied the trichomes for the first time today with new 30-60x loupe and slowly learning this process of clear, cloudy and amber trichs. Quite cool to see it all up so close and personal!

@St. Tom Once it is dry enough and ready to go into the jars from the brown bags, do you burp the jar for few minutes once a day for a week and then just do it every few days or how do you approach this next step? What would you be looking for or worried by on the RH meter inside the jar? Ammonia smell is bad, anything else? at which point would you put 62% packs into the jar?

I just did half of my last harvest in bags. I put a piece of cardboard on tent floor so wouldn't be cold put 1 layer in bottom. No need for hygrometer you dont want to open them anymore that you have to. Have fan on but not on the bags. Will take longer to dry tho. I use bags from grocery store work good. Have to say I didnt notice a difference so not something I plan on doing anymore. Give it a shot and see for yourself. I was trying to get more smell but didnt seem to help. You can hang if you want, I didnt want any movement in bag that wasnt necessary. On the floor did that the best. The more you bud moves the more trichs you lose keep this in mind. I know it's hard not to open the bags but that's what I read so that's what I did. Bud is good just didnt make it smelly. Gave a good long cure tho. Good luck bud.
