Bob's Journey into Hybridisation and Genetics - For Dummies

Day 29 - Showing sex
Hey Breeders and wannabreeders :toke:

The gentlemen inside the tent are growing like hell and both are definitly showing some interesting features. But the right one is showing some exceptional signs of hybrid vigor and vertical growth looks an easy task for him. This one is just miles ahead on the left, so I'll probably choose it for collecting the pollen.
On the other hand. The left one is more compact then the other and a bit slower...Difficult decision. @Sawney_bean, what are the things that tickle your interest in these guys?

Next up are the ladies inside the greenhouse. These Mephisto crosses are all showing hybrid vigor and are growing like a mf'r :hump:
Have a look for yourselves...First off, Double Grape x Toof Decay. One stretchy girl with enormous leaves. Compared to some other girls, her internodal space is the largest.

Still, she's showing sex and is eager to please :dancer:

Next up, Mephisto Wedding x Coal Miners Daughter...Mhmmm, wonderful looking plant. She did stretch a lot since she moved from the tent to the greenhouse, so I'm glad she's inside her 7 gallon pot and she can stretch both above and below the soil :weed:

I didn't have a visit yesterday, but the day before these pistils weren't there as I checked every plant inside the greenhouse... So that's an amazing amount of flowers in a day... 💐🌻🌺

Finally an original, Mephisto Wedding. A very compact plant, actually it's two plants side by side in the same 10 gallon pot. But still very compact and very short internodal space. I like these short and stout plants a lot. They are perfect for low tents like mine. Where headspace is in high demand...

Just like with my DP girls this one is about to burst into flower...and she's screaming FLOWERS!!!

Super healthy girls!! Tomorrow they'll receive their BioTabs and tonight...tonight it's it was (*) time, for me to have a after-dark visit and apply some Boom Boom Spray to all these girls so they get a kick in the butt and start running :woohoo:

(*) I was still downloading the pictures for the time lapse, so I went to to apply the Boom Boom Spray inside the greenhouse.

I like the larger one with the faster grow rate so you're decision is spot on

I like the short plants to mate. I favour them over tall lanky one's.
the mephisto and coal miners daughter looks like a good sea of green strain for low head space . A strong main stem with minimal side branches is what I look for in a sea of green strain.
I have some wedding strains as you know so I will look on with curious glee for some future breeding.

I like the larger one with the faster grow rate so you're decision is spot on
Thanks for confirming my point :toke: Always nice to have a master breeder at your side
Well, my intent is to back cross the Wedding x CMD, back into the Wedding I've got growing. Sounds like the right thing to do to obtain more male progeny closer to the vanilla doughiness of the Wedding. Next I could do, is a small pheno hunt in the tent over the fall months. Germinate 50 or so those seeds, take the 32 best sprouts and sow two each into a 3.5L pot. Statistically I should get one male and one female in each pot, from which I can select to keep as parents for the F2.... But we're not even close to this, so I'll stop dreaming for now and go check my ladies in the greenhouse

Say Sawney,

How do you harvest your pollen? Saw in a couple of your posts recently that you have plenty of males with swollen sacks.
I hope to get enough magic dust from this plant to make a f1 breeding strain. View attachment 1599295View attachment 1599296

I just removed the smaller male from the tent and build some sort of aluminum foil cage around the remaining one. First removes the lower leaves and side nodes so I had a nice straight trunk to wrap the foil around. The paper on top is to prevent the fan from blowing inside the construction, which is already pointing upwards...

The lowest flowers in the bottom of this picture were starting to open up...That's when I decided to wrap the plant with foil. Still very interested to hear/read your way of harvesting flowers.

I don't collect pollen dude. I remove branches and directly pollinate the female using the male as a magic dust wand . I pollinate over 3 days if needed repeating the process.
