Indoor Blackstrap - Gnome Automatics x Brother Mendel

Day 22 - Recharge Day

Today the little one got the following injected into her coco:

  • Recharge
  • Vitamins & Aminos
  • Photosynthesis Plus
  • Super Thrive (reminds me of my grandparents)

As usual, my injections were made about 5" into the coco.

All it takes is a repurposed Tony Chachere Turkey Injector. You know, for "stategic" placement.

If you are wondering, "Injections, what the hell?" I'll show you.

It holds about 29.5 ml and I insert around the outer perimeter of the seedling or small plant.

For the larger plants (my other grow), I inject as well, but their real treatment goes in the AutoPot AquaValve compartment.

After reading back over this post, I promise I didn't intend for it to sound naughty.

Recharge Day Update - Stroke of Luck ... or Genius?

Who am I kiiding, of course it was luck. I'll explain.

Last night I gave everyone a Recharge (+) treat.

When I do this, I shut off the valve to the main reservoir (12-gallon from AutoPot).

Side Note: * Being an uber nerd (or paranoid) I have shutoff valves to each pot and two around the in-line filter.

If I didn't do this it would just keep refilling itself while my back was turned making their microbial delight.

I then siphon out their mini-reservoirs and use those onboard nutrients stores as my stock fluid for the rest.

Back to the main point of the story:

Meantime, Mother Nature is being a mother (&#%$) and it is minius (-) 4 here.

As a reminder, my grow tent and grow area are up on this second-floor loft in my garage.

I have a mini-split AC with heating capabilities, but it is not ready for below zero temps.

So, this morning I wake up and find that the reservoir is now 54 degrees.

This is where the luck comes in, my plants never had to drink water that cold because I usually don't turn the valves back on until all the Recharge Mix has been taken up.

There is one exception, I have a Mystery Seed that is in a 2-gallon Rain Science pot being fed via a BluMat dripper. At least there, the coco is at tent temps.

Solution:

I'm taking an radiator style heater to set up outside the tent and near the reservoir to augment the tent heat and try to warm up the nutrients.

I used to have an aquarium heater, but got rid of it because I worried about it getting the solution too warm. I could it right now.

Until I get the rez back to normal, I'll take nutrients down into the house to warm up and pour that into each reservoir.

Update:

Once those lights went out this AM, the tent dropped fast and my radiant heater couldn't keep up.

I put one of those small heaters in the tent and the radiator style near the reservoir.

Day 63 - Photos & Notes

  • I sense a slight desire for more nitrogen.
  • Note the lighter color in the Intervein space.
  • Growth is good.
  • I pumped out the bottom of the SIP bucket... pH had risen from 5.8 to 6.4.
  • I corrected the pH and added another liter.
  • I also gave a "drink" of plant peptides. They are heavily loaded with Nitrogen as well.

See below for more info:

Day 28 - Quiet News Day

She keeps growing out, but not up.

I had to excavate around the stem and put up leaf stands for lights out when the leaves drop.

I'll shoot better photos tomorrow.

Day 29 - Excellent Growth - 3.0 EC Yikes

Some of the lighter shading in the leaves is being replaced by more of a solid color.

The new FloraFlex Full Tilt Schedule seems hotter than a Two-Dollar pistol.

I'm giving it a try and will watch the tips.

As you can see, growth is robust with the biomass, but not going vertical yet.

Day 32 - Leaving It Alone

You can't even know the discipline I have with this plant.

By now, I would have normally done all sorts of newbie foolishness.

She's growing well.

Although not toward the heavens.

Day 33 - Just Checking In
BS - Day 33_Over Top_6440.jpeg

Now scroll up and see how much it grew overnight. Its leaves are now outside the bucket.

BS - Day 33_6443.jpeg

As you can see, there is a lot of growth close to the stem.

I'm waiting until it gets some height before topping or any other real training.

Plus, no defoliating (except a leaf here and there) until what seems like a week before flowering (it's an Auto).

I'll finish out with a Group Shot:

Day 35 - Big Changes

Young Blackstrap had a banner day.

It was kind of like that day in Boot Camp when get sent all around and end up in a room with a bunch of Sailors with needles and vaccination guns.

She got topped, some Xylem crushing and bent way the hell over to expose some other bud sites.

She also got a new home, as I moved her and Mystery Seed to my 4 x 2, so that the other tent could move to 12/12.

I have a stubborn Auto that will not go into flower, suggestions were to flip it like a photo.

The other 3 plants are well into flowering, so it will limit their buds.

The good news, I only grow for myself. So, there will be plenty enough.

On to the Photos:

The "friend" in the tent is another plant I call Mystery Seed. It was gifted from a Podcaster when I bought a t-shirt.

I have no idea what it is, although I was never in doubt it was an Auto, because the now off-the-air podcaster had AutoFlower in his name.

"I'm smart like that.

Day 38 - Cruising

No complaints.

  • I've removed a few leaves, but nothing that would be considered a defoliation session.
  • She did get burnt tips from the FloraFlex recipe for the week.
  • Since she isn't showing signs of flower, I am holding Week 4 Veg Nutes for another week.
  • It looks like my "gentle" topping didn't do as I hoped.
  • It is actually growing out the same as if I would have snipped it with scissors.
  • Maybe more will grow from that spot, but nothing is lost.

Day 40 - A Little Clean Up

•Not shown here, I cleaned up some of the lowest fan leaves.

• No sign of Flower yet.

• As you can see, I applied the "Squeeze and Twist" method a while back.

• As for the graffiti, I learned this from a Kyle Kushman video.
