New Grower Biz Ops & Networking

Hi Medi, The controller I'd like to build could do either a small hydro grow or a grow room. I've found lots of open source (OS) projects and commercially available products but the OS projects are under developed and most don't seem to be going anywhere and the available products start at $1,300+ without the modular devices the controller needs to run. I'd like to build a $300-$400 controller and offer modular components that you add depending on what growing technique you use.

Sounds like a great idea, and at a great price point. An Rpi would make a great controller or one of the newer boards like a HummingBoard or for that matter, the Beaglebone which has a ton of places to plug in sensors. Just food for thought, but best of luck with the project!!

Honestly I think a bar like establishment would be the way to go. In colorado some people are running into the problem of where they can do it without risking breaking the law. Most hotels are smoke free and you can't exactly just drive around and do it or go to a public park without risking getting in some kind of trouble. A bar would give them a friendly place to do it, would offer them to sample a large variety, and would give them a social experience. Along with the large selection it would allow people to only buy a bowl of something they might have heard of but never tried and if they don't like it for whatever reason they didn't have to buy a full gram.

The only problem would be how exactly would you distribute it. Since its a bar it wouldn't be like a dispensary so they wouldn't be able to buy large amounts and then leave the premises with it. Also with modern strains being 1-3 hits and your good how much do you charge for a bowl and how much do you sell to an individual before they've "had too much".

That's a cool concept! A bar that serves bud instead of alcohol... I could picture that! Bet there would be a lot less knock down, drag out bar brawls! The licensing might be a bit expensive, though

The bars you guys talk about, in the Netherlands we call these coffeeshops ;)

We got coffee shops here that have smoking lounges..they are nice but there is no pot bought or sold on premises so its a smoke yer own affair but definitely a nice vibe.

I can't wait until stuff like that starts poppin' off in the MD and DC area! How chill would that be?! Swapping buds, sharing bong hits with people you just met. Comparing grow techniques over a freshly roasted bowl...

:dig:

Oregon also! I am so ready! July can't get here soon enough. I thought a drive up like Dutch Bros coffee but for weed would be cool.

Hi medi and jackmc,
I like your ideas! This is the space to get into. I just watched a program about an indoor grow operation in Washington State and the first thing that came to mind was..."Wow, think if they had some software to control all their grow room operations..."

I am a newbie - not much experience growing; however, I am a software developer...the Java language is my game. If you ever want to really kick the tires on your ideas and need some software development help...give me a shout out! I'm IN! :P

Honestly I don't think most realize what the industry will seriously look like after legalization. I guarantee it will look nothing like the medical and few rec states do now. Once the threat of the law is removed and its only regulations, big business will step in and that will change everything. Also factor in that people can always just grow their own, even if it requires a license and you have to know the price will plummet.
Once big business comes in it will change everything and for those that truly care for the plant and its uses will greatly benefit. The legalization talks have already exposed those that only wish to exploit people and see the plant as money and power and those are the people that say they are pro cannabis but still fight against legalization.

One things for sure, getting directly into the business will cost $1,000,000+ no matter where you are, they want to keep the rift raft out ( meaning no average joe's need apply ). NY is requiring even testing labs put up a million dollar bond or no business for you. That pretty much leaves marketing, security, gardening supplies, etc, peripheral businesses. The " Land of Opportunity" has become "The Land of the Wealthy only Need Apply"...............

Sad but oh so true. Its not about what you, but who you know and even if you don't know actual people, as long as you have lots of money then you can quickly get to know the right people. Joe Schmo could have the perfect business plan, ultimate security and a full proof way to keep it all away from kids and the licensing agency will just keep giving him the run around, all while leaking his business plans to their friends and family and handing them to people with money. Once they have all his details and everything else they will deny him for some BS reason and turn around and instantly approve the person they gave Joe's business plan too.
