DC just went legal, and I was reading in Time Magazine that, by the end of 2016, another 18 states are projected to have legalized recreational use, or will be in the process of doing so. With the legalization movement slowly picking up steam, I figured it would be a great idea to start a thread where members can network, discuss potential current and future business opportunities, discuss the canna industry in general. Let the ideas fly!

I'd love to develop a inexpensive open source hydroponics controller. I've got some Arduino parts and have been inspired by Ksj's auto watering project. If I can cob it together i've got a friend who can program it. That's as far as I've gotten with the idea. How about you Bandit?

That's a great start! I'm trying to see if there is a way I can get into the game, without having to pay out of the ass to do so. I haven't come up with anything yet, but I'm trying to think of a unique, yet simple way I can ride the wave that's about to come through the DC area. I think it would be tight to do some type of auto flower instructional class that goes over the basics of growing. Nothing too extensive, just an 8 hour instructional course.

Honestly I don't think most realize what the industry will seriously look like after legalization. I guarantee it will look nothing like the medical and few rec states do now. Once the threat of the law is removed and its only regulations, big business will step in and that will change everything. Also factor in that people can always just grow their own, even if it requires a license and you have to know the price will plummet.
Once big business comes in it will change everything and for those that truly care for the plant and its uses will greatly benefit. The legalization talks have already exposed those that only wish to exploit people and see the plant as money and power and those are the people that say they are pro cannabis but still fight against legalization.

I am excited to see how Oregon's new law pans out. The OLCC is actually going out to listen to Oregonians about how they want it to look! There has been a lot of input and doing what they can to keep big business out and focus on small growers. The Oregon OLCC (Oregon Liquor Control Commision) has the experience of implementing micro brews and micro wineries. Now they also have Micro Hard Liquor makers as well.

Oregon is learning from our mistakes and they just got a new governor that is pretty left leaning - the nations first openly bi-sexual Governor!

I have been thinking for quite a while that Autos are going to be the unexpected surprise in the home grow area. Not many people want to invest the money/space/time to do an indoor grow, but almost everyone would have room for a patio or potted plant. Autos are the perfect pre potted pot plant! Use super soil and the end user has a water and harvest on their hands. :-)

Bandit If you want to be able to profit I think you need something that is scaleable. But whatever it is if you love doing it getting rich will be secondary.

I'm not concerned about big business. I think there will be part of the market that looks like the micro brewery/winery/distillery business. Being a seed breeder or having a brand of kick ass bud might do the trick.

I agree autos will take home growing by storm. Even a brown thumb like me can grow something smokeable.

Unexpected only to those poor souls who know nothing of this site! LOL!

I honestly think there are many ways out there that you can, as a small business, turn a decent profit, without taking advantage of the consumer. It just depends on how creative you choose to be. Either way, earning a living working with cannabis would be as good as it comes!

I'm with you Bandit. I've started a number of businesses and never had trouble making money and treating the customers well. Over the years I seen people get rich by developing businesses that are easily scaleable and have recurring revenue. Something like a bud of the month club where you send your customers a new strain each month might work.

See, that's what I'm talking about! Creativity is key! I, too, think that autos are gonna be big, and I think that many members of this site are way ahead of the general public when it comes to knowledge about them. I wonder how many members from this site, 5 years from now, will be deep in the industry, in one way or another?
