Lighting AutoCob, Auto Flower, megacrop thread.

Big plants...don’t yield nearly as well per square foot. My recent discovery.
Growing smaller plants (tent, AutoCOBs, Air-Pots, coco/perlite, MegaCrop base nutes) jammed in together, I generally get about 2 oz./sq. ft.

What has been your yield (total and excluding 'larf') per area with the big plants you normally grow?

A lot less than this. I don’t kept tack like I should. Take some great pictures of these autos blowing past the 4x4 scrog but yielding around 1/2-3/4 lb. 8oz / 16sq’ 1/2oz per sq’. 12oz/ 16 sq’ 3/4 per sq’ Pathetic in comparison. I’d much rather have 32 oz than a nice picture and 8-12oz.

how about this for growing smaller plants with auto cobs? 36 plants in a 32"x32"x60" tent

Plus, growing more but smaller plants is less stressful (and likely less work too), Besides no longer worrying about when/if your plants are going to grow BIG (see that often on AFN), smaller plants are not as needy and finicky as big ones. Smaller plants of different strains should all be better able to grow using the same nutes mixture, while Big plants likely each need more customization. And smaller plants suck much less nutes, such as I usually see ≤1 Liter/day.

If you do shift to growing smaller plants, keep in mind that the low(er) light dosage regimens you've adopted may not be relevant at all. Low light may well work with Big plants covering a big area, but with smaller plants, I presume it much better to blast them with maximal light/PAR. Your frequent recommendation of 1 AutoCOB/plant (jammed in a tent filled with non-Big plants, with lots of light overlap) should do the job.

You know this is something I often think about. To know there is a way to save someone on a strict budget who needs canna to get by and not be able to afford them really breaks my heart. Instead they save the money by buying junk that costs 60-70% more per month to run. (Epistar powered leds) becuse thats all they can afford but end up paying more in the near future. The unfortunate part is I can’t tell who really needs the help and who is trying to be a cheap ass to get something for nothing. I get a lot of that too. I recently spoke to one of the most cheerful guys I have ever met. Father of 2 who had lost both of his legs. He got the best discount I could give anyone. That was a real spirit boost.
That right there is why I will continue to buy autocobs other than the fact that they are the best lights in my opinion and very versatile I’ve been experimenting with mounting them on the poles in my tent to throw light at these plants from every corner and from the top the photos I have growing are exploding and don’t know which direction to grow I have 3 and probably have taken 100+ clones from them this past month and not to mention they are only 3 months old I’ve probably thrown away another 100 tops I’ve taken

To go along with all the talk on saving money using autocobs, I did the math on mine.

My entire setup (4 cobs, fans, carbon filter fan) costs me $36.50/month. And that's running my lights 24/7.

That's absolutely nothing comparatively, and I'm about to yield over a lb total for my current harvest. Just waiting on my last gorilla glue auto

I'll never grow with any other light, these have proven themselves to every grow so far

Its really just an experiment to see what kind of yield is possible with such a small pot, less than a liter. I've seen Tony21 yeild more in 1L pots that many people see in 12L pots!

Woo whoo, look at all those lovely ladies. That many plants would probably kill me. Lots o' luck for a bumper crop.

Hey guys
Water Question for everyone
I’m trying to decide to use town water, or I also have access to good drinking water from a well, I know RO would be best but, this is what I have to work with. What does everyone recommend?
Thanks

You have to test how much dissolved solids are in the water (ppm) from each before anyone can answer...
