I recently did some par testing using a vareity of K/CRI combos. 3000K 70 CRI, 3000K 80 CRI, 3000K 90 CRI, 2700K 90 CRI and 3500K 80 CRI. Surprisingly the 3000K 70 CRI samples provided the most par light and even when weighed against the Mcree curve (which give some advantage to the red range) it still had the best rating. There will be some real world testing to validate the test results, but it will be a very close race.

Hey Kevin...:welcome:

I'm fairly new to LED growing..can you explain the major differences between the old style LED's and the newer style you're making?? Also, what is a good setup for a 4x4 to replace a MARS II 1200?

The suggested high intensity solution for a 4x4 will be 2x T4-2100s, but 2 T3-2100s would easily provide more light.

@Tasty , love the lights...was top of my list to buy before I went DIY route. When I was looking, you offered you lights with the option for either the reflectors or the lenses over the COB's. Do you still do both, and what is the basic difference between the two as far as the light footprint?

I don't sell lamps with lenses any more. Lenses and reflectors are both about 95% effective at transmitting light. The difference is that a lens is affecting the entire beam while a reflector is only affecting the side light that wouldn't have made it to the canopy anyway.

Really interesting results Kevin!
More tests to come I love it, I will be waiting to hear more.
Surprising the 3000K 70 CRI had the best PAR especially as most COB users go for the 3500K cree cxb3590.
What part does CRI have to play in a light? I'm not looking for natural looking light as long as I get the best PAR.

hi kevin
i grow in an almost 2x4 with 3 plants at a time with each plant 21 days apart.im kinda looking for 2 or 3 small lights,1 vegish spec and 1 flower ish spec to better suit my plants needs.or should i stick with 1 light ?
cheers
:pighug:

Hi archie,

The vegetative stage doesn't need flower level intensity to get good growth. It might be as simple as using a single light that's offset a bit to favor the mature side of the space.

CRI will generally provide higher blue levels while shifting the red peak to a higher nanometer range. It provides the best spectrum but sacrifices par readings to do it. So there's a trade off and that has made it difficult to point one out that is best. It will take real world testing to clear up, but it's very likely because of the pluses and minuses that they will all group very close together.
