My ec has fluctuated, when it drops down to 1000-1100 I put in 5ml of shogun a&b into a litre of water and add it to the rez. Its never really gone above 1800. Plain water here is 800. Its a good guide, but I don't try and get it exact, just top the nutes up as they are used. Since I got a bit of nitrogen toxicity on my first NFT grow, I have used the nutes more sparingly this time round, paying more attention to the colour of the leaves, not letting them get too dark.

i had nitrogen o/d in the plant furthest from the pump untill i turned the flow down about 2 weeks ago. still cant understand why the furthest one was N o/d and the closer one was not but was suffering P def but theyre ok now. i put an airstone in the res last week too and thats definately helped them perk up aswell.

You can see the size difference in the flowers over just two days. Still stretching a wee bit too.

Just checked the ec @EvilScotsman, the left is 1650, and the right is 1720. I think they have been drinking a lot as the res level is quite low, which is why its a bit higher than usual. I might start increasing it slightly soon as they are getting into flower.

thats some rapid growth your gettin now mate. well ahead of me now. think i might be using too much light wich is keeping them so short. ive raised them but its still not helping much and im at 31" now so only got another 10" i can raise them! : (

I think keeping the lights close can help stop the plants stretching, as the plants don't need to grow towards the light as much. I think mars recommend
germination: 24-30inches above the plants
veg:18-24 inches above the plants
flower:12-18 inches above the plants

I just had a quick look at your plants, they are nice and bushy, but they look a little dark to me. Might be too much nutes rather than the lights mate.

I just had a quick look at your plants, they are nice and bushy, but they look a little dark to me. Might be too much nutes rather than the lights mate.

yeah im in a catch 22 with the nutes mate. theyve got a serious P hunger and turn purple as soon as it drops. had a few mag defs and some curly fucked up leaves aswell. i had the lights at 24" after asking mars about it but when i put the second light up and never raised them they just stopped going up and went out instead. it also fucked up the ph with the temperature in tent and res rising aswell so stunted them for nearly a week while i sussed that one out. im learning something new every day tho so should go a lot smoother next time

oh and ive always figured the darkness to be N toxic but the right plant has always been healthy while the left one has been darker so dont want to drop the N and end up with a deficit for the good plant. golden rule. 1 plant per res! 2 is just way too much fannying about lol

LOL! Yeah, the next grow will be a lot easier mate, its a lot to work out and fiddle with first time round. So many variables to adjust and get right, with some having an effect on others!

Quick photo update! Struggling to keep up with their nutrient requirements at the moment and they have paled slightly. I've been plucking all dead and dying leaves on sight. I've doubled the res content as they are drinking a lot!!! EC around 2000, but I'm going to increase it gradually each day or few days until the leaves darken slightly.
