New Grower Auto AK - Day 10

Some on this forum say use tap water for minerals, some say no. So I'm confused.

Thanks
I find that people have different methods and many people swear their system works best. I also tend to get confused, but decided it's best to learn the basics and then play around a little when I have a little experience. Next grow, you could try using tap water and see if there's much difference

RO vs Tap Water, I started out using tap water, but now use RO. Tap water is generally treated with floride or florine. You have to check with your water company as to which is added to your drinking water. I have read that floride will evaporate or bubble off, as will the added chlorine. Florine on the other hand does not evaporate off the water and is harmful to your plant. I switched to RO water just to see if it made any differance, and in my case, it made a world of difference. Faster growth and less problems. I grow hydro in ProMix, AN with RO and LED. I don't use the pH Perfect, but Jungle Juice which is way cheaper and does a great job. I don't mind manually adjusting pH, that way I get it where I want it. I balance my pH feeds to 6.3. I have to add CaMg with every feeding starting from day one. On my last grow, a Cream of the Crop Cash Crop, I was up to 2 1/2 ml/L by the end of the grow. You usually do not see Ca or Mg problems show up until flowering starts. It is pretty hard to OD your soil with CaMg. Your plants have great color, they appear to have everything they need to kick into stretch which should be anytime now. I'm going to follow along, I am just starting a Dr Krippling AK-47 called The Smokin Gun. What is the breeder of your AK?

Good Morning All.

Anyone able to provide me information on distilled water vs tap water?

Thanks

I have used both but even at a dollar a gallon it can add up especially when you are using that for your water source. One decent size plant in mid bloom can take up to a gallon a day with a min of 3/4 gal. Just an example but by the end of a grow you may have spent money that can be used to buy more supplies or beans. I have found no benefit to using distilled over tap water. Just fill you container up with tap and let it sit out for 24 hours(just refill after you feed or water so it is ready to go the next day). Also always PH your water no matter how much you are putting in. There are several problems that come with fluctuating PH readings. Marijuana plants like a little acidity in their soil so a lightly acidic soil is how marijuana plants thrive. If the PH goes too high or too low you get lock out which in turn causes plant nutrient deficiencies. Never listen to "people behind the garden shop counter" unless the garden shop is selling "growing" equipment and that is more than half of their inventory. Never believe what one person says always research and gather info here and make a decision.

Smart decision! Get experience and take info wherever you can get it.Then research it and develop your own plan and tweak it. You will go into a grow and it will just click and confidence rises and you are on your way. It took me 2 1/2 grows for it to click now it is much easier and enjoyable. I would imagine that using tap vs distilled is not going to make your jaw drop by the difference. I think going through a grow smoothly is more important. As new growers we tend to overthink things and when you overthink and second guess yourself problems arise and it makes it harder on yourself but this is just my longwinded opinion nothing else.

I am impressed with the feedback and knowledge! I can't buy what I have learned here. However, what Cat said is probably the proper way. If I watered my plant everyday it would drown.

She gets a gallon a week at the moment. I did notice on my last grow that as soon as she went into full flower, it screamed for cal/mag.

So fast, distilled water is working fine. But all I can do is try tap water on the next grow and see what happens.

Thank you everyone and follow my journey. Chime in when you see pics that appear to be of a concern.

Next pics will be tomorrow as it will be 21 days old.

I would like to add more calmag than I do. I currently only use 1ml per gallon. I'm growing in coco. My tap water EC is way too high to leave much room for nutes and, apparently, I read somewhere that if you live in a'hard water' area then I shouldn't need to feed so much calmag. I'm not sure if that's true, but I do worry that calmag deficiences might show later in flower. I must look into the jungle juice as someone else suggested they were better for my type of water supply. I've already spent £700 on my set up, but I will consider fitting an RO filter asap
