Buds...all trics are glass...and the colour is Reflected from the clayx..
If you Think of them like a glass tumbler...if you stood a clear glass tumbler on a piece of purple velvet..certain angles you looked at would reflect the colour up the glass.
Trait changes in the opaqueness of the tric change the way you View the underlying colour..
so it is a Handy thing to watch when Breeding.
The Clearest/see through trics are the ones described as Self-coloured..they are so clear they allow a pure reflection of the clayx colour..
so you see these on the Deep coloured phenos on JEM/BB..and on the Green JEM....that is the True calyx colour showing through.
By the time it is added to ALF#3..I Adopted the Whiter tric off the White Russian..
the whiter tric is more opaque..so it diffuses the clayx colour..making the colour much more muted..icing-sugar colours..
The Colour is from the JEM..so that is Exactly the same..but the way they Look to the eye is altered by the different tric.
Under a scope..you Will see a tric go a very pale..all over purple..this is how it looks when it is going to amber up...some kind of maturity change I would guess.
Once they amber up..or go milky..obviously that is Colour..but not in the way you mean.
If you could Remove a tric that appears coloured from the calyx..you would see that it holds no colour..it is glass...
