Here we go with another update and some pics. A lot has happened in the last few days, some good and some bad. First off, I added a new fan and speed controller to my tent. With the addition of the larger Badboy T5, I've been experiencing temps in the 80s, and things will only get hotter from here. I may move the carbon filter inside and pull through it at some point, but I've had no issues in the past pushing air through the filter, and I like the muffler effect that it provides. Unfortunately it didn't have as much cooling effect as I hoped, even though the fan and controller are working great. I cranked it up to the full 400cfm and it created so much negative pressure that the tent damn near collapsed, but I still had temperatures under the lights around 10-15 degrees higher than the ambient temps outside. Then I hung a thermometer in the middle of the tent and found it's a good 10 degrees cooler there than below the lights. I believe the problem is that I've got a 4' lighting fixture in a 4' wide tent, so there's very little space for the hot air to get around the light and up to the fan (see pic below). I've got multiple fans moving the air under the light, but that isn't helping with the damming effect. This is something that I'll have to get sorted before the really warm weather arrives.
On to the plants. In the last couple of days I've been looking more closely for them to show sex, and yesterday I saw some weird stuff going on with Mi5 1. See thread
here. After giving it another day it became clear that he was a male, and today I was gutted to find male preflowers all over the other Mi5. Both were chopped, and I sadly had to cross one of my most desired strains off the list. There was some good news, though, as both SR 1 and 2 had several tiny pistils showing. I need another day or two to confirm 100% that they're female, but I'm pretty sure. So that's all of Stitch's strains that were first to show sex. The AKR is a fem seed so I expect to see pistils any day, so that will hopefully give me 3 females so far. No news is good news from the PAK and two BBs, and they're both not displaying any of the lanky tendencies that I usually see in male plants. Fingers crossed that I end up with all three of them being girls.
When I watered today after taking these pics, I was irritated to find that my pH was still low and had in fact dropped down into the mid 5 range. I have to give Happy Frog a big thumbs down at this point, though thankfully the plants aren't showing any sign of deficiency. I top dressed each pot with some dolomite lime before watering with 7.5 water, so hopefully things will come back up before these plants really start getting hungry...
