Extraction a Tincture Question

a couple questions ,if you don't mind....
was the plant matter dried or frozen before adding the alcohol?
how long did the plant matter soak in the alcohol?
does the alcohol taste come through in the finished oil? I love the taste of the plant esters and flavinoids (linalool specifically) ,I would hate to lose that flavor in the meds.
I always ask first before I experiment, makes for a lower failure rate.
oh cool,I was just told that there may be a tincture making (essential oil ) distiller in my near future. What a Christmas pressie that would be eh?

hey for sure!
the plant matter was an honest mess when i put it in. it was some leftover trimmings (tho no stems), some hash matter left from making bubble, some shake, and a leeeetle bit of some decent buds that were just too dry. all of it was dry (room temp) when i put it in the everclear
I probably let the plant soak in there for about an hour, by then all the hash had dissolved so i figured it was good.
tried some today, didn't have any left over alchohol taste that i could notice.
as far as flavor goes its pretty good imo, although i have never tried this with 'good buds' so i wouldn't be 100% sure on this.

also, if you are doing this, use a cheese cloth folded double if you can get it. it's worth the easy clean up

also, that [ess. oiil extracter] would be awesome i am sure!!:jump:
your process sounds similar to one I was wanting to use. I have a theory about the effects of light on tinctures. I plan to do all the prep and evap work in the dark. Hopefully the dark will preserve most of the flavinoids that are lost with degredation and exposure . I just rinsed out the Magic bullet (full of dried sticky) and a useless little grinder that was clogged with sticky, into the everclear. Whoosh !! talk about a solvent action !! this is fast.
its about 1 fluid ounce of greenish liquid. I'll put it on the cup warmer when it starts to get dark out in the shed tonite. Be back this time tomorrow night with the results.

im looking today to see . If not I'll stick to smoking this lot . I cried after I dumpped an oz into 80% vodka and even after a month .....nothing. using inferior alcohol is a REAL mistake, soo yeah fingies X'ed I'm able to source som E.C. asap.

I wonder if freezing overnite, then allow to come to room temp ,then heating that vodka tinc to about 120f until the volume was reduced by 1/2 or more would have helped .
a cup warmer is very nice to heat small batches with

i have found the cup warmer to be an essential piece of equippment when dealing with this kind of stuff. And it's super cheap!
Low temp is crucial if for nothing else but safety ...

@hereb how did that light test work out for you?
I'm interested to see if it makes a big difference...

I'll get a pic tonite at dark...I put the strained mix in a thick ceramic chinese tea cup and put it on the warmer at 10pm last night.
just before dawn it had barely reduced by 1/4 so, I covered it and took it off the heat.
it goes back on the heat at dark tonite...I think the tea cup takes a long time to heat up,maybe why this small amount is taking so long to evap.

about to head to the shed to put this Everclear tinc on the cup warmer

yeah i could see that. It probably is the ceramic cup, but i imagine it's better since you are leaving it on the heat over night.
awesome !!:dance2:

took this off the heat at dawn ...alcohol evap is taking its sweet time..I can see the oil and I'm tempted to sample it,but after 1 more session on the cup warmer tonite it should be ready to test at dawn tomorrow.
