i have recieved a bit of advice from here and other forums & thought now im more confident and up and running i would keep a log.
This is done in a tiny spare bedroom that is also my smoke room and chill out room. these are the grow chambers...
basically i have the three cabinets now and when its all running smoothly should be cropping 2 plants every 3.5 weeks or 3 plants every 5 weeks. my target is to produce a 2 gram a day for £2 a day in costs. given my first 2 grows using the smaller two cabinets this should be just about possible but i dont expect much more.
A note about my grow room, and set up, i do not use carbon filter odor control. i grow in a tiny spare bedroom that is also my smoke and chill out room. It has one external wall with a window which has blinds up and is then blacked out out behind the blinds, then has curtains. I put a lot of air fresheners in the gaps between the blinds and curtains. I also have a small ionizer running 24/7. outside the spare room i have two automatic air fresheners pointing at the grow room door and off down the stairs, i then have another of these inside the front door. growing 2-3 small plants this seems fine and i rarely smell weed outside the spare bedroom unless i have forgotten to close the door. mostly the whole house just smells of air freshener except the grow room when they are in full bloom.
A note about heat. with all these bulbs running in this tiny room there is no need for heating in winter, the whole room heats up to over 20deg c and now we are in summer its more like 30deg c and will get hotter. ideally i would put a vent in the door with a carbon filter to draw out the heat and remove the smell but im renting to blergh.
now the cabinets
The small one on top is my vege chamber, it has 3 x 45w blue bulbs in it (~3000lm each £6 each off ebay) and 2 4" u usb desk fans (£10 each off amazon). i can vege 3 plants in here in 5lt pots for about 4 weeks with some LST. the size is 60x60x40cm. i used silicone to stick the mylar to the sides with mylar tape around the edges to secure it. there is some bubbling but it seems fine. with all three bulbs running and the two fans i find it best to leave the front of the cabinet open. the temp in the spare bedroom is about 25deg C and the cabinet is just a couple of degree above that. I do close the front with a makeshift reflector at night when its cooler just to keep a little more light in.
the chamber below it is divided into two. both are pretty much the same, 80x40x40cm. each has 2x45w red cfl (~2900 lm each £12 ebay) in the top and a side light. one side light is 23w (~1500 lm) the other 33w (2300 lm) both red cfl, they both come from b&q and were £5 and £10 respectively. i use clip on bayonet light fittings i got off ebay for £2.50 each. they are screwed in at the top of the cabinets, but the side lights are just clipped on and can be moved up and down. just having the side lights made a massive difference to my second grow, and the fantasmo i have in now just would not have flowered well without it becuase its a leggy sativa, without the side light lower down the bulbs in the top wouldnt have the power to reach the lower leaves and bud sites and they wouldnt be developing as well as they are. these two cubicals have one 4" desk fan each blowing across the tip of the plants and out through a 2" crack i leave in the door. they run at about 28-30 deg c which does drop with the door open
the third chamber i just got. its a £10 tent wardrobe i got from poundstretcher, and i have a 250w cfl left over from a few years ago. i again used the same type of fan. i am planning to use this bulb for a few months whilst its still good, and then to switch to 2 x 90w LED and 2 x 45w cfl side lights which i think will provide better coverage and produce bigger plants.
now the running costs,
621w for 20 hours a day ~12.5kwh per day @ 16 pence per KWH = £1.99 per day. Off my last 2 easyryder which didnt use the tent i got about 2.4 ounce which at a gram a day works out at 68 days of smoke which is brilliant because i will be cropping every 25 days to 5 weeks depending on how i run it. so there is room for error + i will have too much.
as for the quality of the bud, i have only used joint doctor seeds. iv done easy ryder, diesel ryder, and chronic ryder. they have all had a lot of THC on and all tasted quite nice and been reasonably strong although they all taste a little generic. in terms of taste the diesel ryder was far better, a bit sweeter and more distinctive. i do have a problem getting big dence buds. i am not sure if this is strain choice or lack of light or poor feeding on my part.
And the plants i have in at the moment.... well these photos were taken 4 days ago...
Ogre, joint Dr. this one has gone a bit wrong but after a flush and feed 4 days ago the new growth looks ok, ish, sort of, and its still drinking a hell of a lot. it was high stress trained for a bit too long and repotted into a 12lt pot a little too late. live and learn. dont have an exact age, about 6-7 weeks i expect.
the smaller one is a kush van stitch, flash seeds i think, and the larger is mephisto fantasmo. both about 7-8 week old. both in 5lt pots. all plants in biobiz all mix with a combination of the following feeds. root stimulator, biogrow, biobloom, dutch pro bloom, shooting powder, magnacal, topmax , and a little baby bio. ph~6.5.
i will be planting 3 more tomorrow, i have left it a little late due to unforseen circumstances, but i will plant 2 kush van stitch, as its done very fast, 55-65 days, and i will need a smoke, and probably a joint dr purple ryder
right, i think thats everything for now.
im hoping to post photo updates once a week but am happy to answer questions or take critisism.
im hoping to keep this thread alive for 6-12 months so there will be a lot of different strains and grows in here by the end.
