New Grower 600w after a week

After some advice on the lights! In the groom i have plants ranging from a few weeks old right up till just off harvest
Iv got a lil veg cabinet which can only take 4 plants at a time
So now the grooms getting empty i plan to chuck freshly planted seeds in the veg cabinet every week then after a week chucking them in with the 600w
Whats people's experiences with this? And with distances? I can imagine if i out them 5ft away its going to stretch the life out of them? And if i was to go around 2ft it will cook them

get them established fisrt , ive tried it with seedlings with 4 leaves before-some cant handle it.
get some proper root down first under veg lighting.

I grow under a 600 watt hps from seedling all the way to the finish and they do fine. With seedlings I put them on the side to get the side lighting then after a week straight under the light. I put the light about 18" to 22" above canopy
