Hi everybody. I decided to start a grow journal since I've been experiencing problems in my garden. This is my first grow so I'm no expert.

Strains: (9 Mephisto Genetics Autos) 3 Sour Crack, 3 Sour Stomper x Walter White, 2 Sour Blues, 1 Triangle Kush

Grow Space : 5x5x7 Apollo Grow Tent inside a 14x14 air conditioned room in a trailer (gets hot!)

Light : Apollo Air Cooled 1000w HPS

Pots : Air-Pots

Medium : Malibu Potting Soil (50%) + Malibu Compost (25%) + Worm Castings (25%)

Nutrients : GBD's Super Soil Mix + Water

Intake/Exhaust : 3 Passive air intakes and a 442 cfm inline fan for exhaust

Light Schedule : 18/6

I have the 9 Mephisto autos in a 5x5 tent under an Apollo 1000w hps. The tent is in an approximately 14x14 ac cooled room. I also have a 6 inch inline fan running on the floor on the outside of the tent for exhaust. It's connected to a exhaust port near the top of the tent which then connects to the light sucking in air from the tent through the hood. I know this isn't the most practical setup but I found this to be the best way to cool both my tent and light with one fan. Soon I'll get another inline fan so I can have my tent and light running on their own separate exhausts. Temperatures do get pretty high (80°-85°). I believe it's because I'm exhausting back into the same room the tent is in. Luckily there is a window next to the tent so I'm planning on covering it with a board with a 6 inch hole for exhaust. I'm probably going to have to install a Y splitter on this 6 inch exhaust hole since I'm going to have to exhaust both the tent and light.

Alright, now to the problems. My 4 oldest plants (3 Sour Cracks, 1 Triangle Kush) leaves are turning brown and dying. Some leaves are also yellowing. From what I've read it could be a cal-mag deficiency. So i'll be going to the hydro store in the morning to pick up some cal-mag to see if that helps. I don't really know what it could be so any input is greatly appreciated.

Yup, calmag deficiency is probably the culprit. The leaves affected won't repair, but the problem will stop spreading. I'd start with the calmag to see what happens. If it doesn't improve, then it's probably nutrients lock. But let's cross that bridge when we get there. :)

@Bailey @VladThe Inhaler

Do you guys agree? Since I don't do soild, I don't know how long it should take for you to see the calmag effects...

I honestly am not sure as calmag deficiency uzaly start with brown rust like spots and it doesn't look like that imo.
Imo I think ure ph is off do you ph as in coco it is 5.5_6.2 range what I will do is call in some help @A-Train @Waira @Fuggzy these people have alot more experience than me

Hey guys. Go ahead and get the cal/mag, you should have it on hand anyways, you will need it. I would check out the pH of the medium now though, and look for pH lock out. Cal/Mag def are common especially if you are not adding any to the medium, but pH lock out can resemble many different deficiencies, although there may be an abundance of that element in the medium. If pH is the issue and you continue to treat another issue, you could end up producing toxic levels when the pH is properly adjusted for nutrient uptake.

Calcium will show up as rust spots on the leaves like this, if you inspect you plants often this can be caught very early (2-5 spots on the plant) and treated. @witchyhour is correct that the damaged spots will NOT repair, the symptoms will just stop progressing.

Magnesium will show up and progress like this.

It's difficult to tell with the HPS glow on the pic, but it looks like pH may be the culprit. I say this because the damages on the leaves are not very uniform. Some of the leaves look to mostly be healthy, and then a ~20% chunk on the side is damages/necrotic looking. Try to get a picture of the plants under a white light, it would makes it easier to suggest problems.

Calicium, Magineesium, and pH problems are all easy to fix, you just need to find the problem. Having to much cal/mag is hard to do, so feel free to treat it anyways, but check out the pH soon.

It definitiely did start as brown spots. And from what i've heard you don't really need to check ph when growing with organic soil, I could be wrong though.

This is somewhat true about not checking pH. Mainly only when the soil is dial in properly. Any soil organic or otherwise can have pH fluctuation. If the microbes are not breaking the organic matter down right, or if there is a lack of microbes, it can have a great affect of the pH. I use my own super soil and do not pH, but if I have a problem, it;s the first thing I check.
