Hi all. It's about time for an update.

They seem to be coming along nicely. They have had a rough start being germed in cold conditions, overwatered, under fed and over illuminated.
I am getting into the swing of things again. There is plenty more to be sprouted before the season is done.

Good looks ! I wish the upfront cost of solar was a bit more affordable.. It is getting there though. Anyways I'll be lurking :coffee2:

The big hit with full solar is the batteries but the price of those is coming down pretty quick. With escalating prices and supply disruptions and not to mention the fucking spikes you get ,stand alone keeps looking better.

my FIL was sort of doing it, gave me inspiration, he basically just lived in a tiny shack though so was kinda depressing and wasn't really completely off grid. i'd want to still have modern shit though especially internet lol how do you manage that with how bad our net is in this country?

also are you completely off grid? or still connected to council water and stuff? would love some advice, can PM if you dont want to clog up your thread.

Sounds like he just wanted to hide. It can be empowering if approached with the right frame of mind.
As far as modern shit goes I an 10/15 min to a reasonably well serviced town with both major chain super markets. For anything specialised it's internet shopping like in the city.
The internet depends on where you are. It is mainly telstra or optus. There is the copper network that is susceptible to everything or mobile which gets you in the pocket. Depends what your needs are.
Totally of the grid. Solar, septic and rain water. The only council service we get out here is the road gets graded when needed. Mail is PO box.

Very very nice. And congrats on the escape to a new lifestyle. Retirement is still 7 years away for me... I'll be 70. Oh well.
Love your cabs and craftsmanship. I have plans to build enough solar to power my gardens. Life's expenses keep getting in the way, but one day.

Keep up the great work I know I am going to love following this one.

Thanks.

Don't leave it to long.

A big congrats on escaping the rat race mate! Its a lot of inspiration for a young'n as myself.
On that subject have you gone totally off grid with the solar? I love the idea of the batteries in series and would love to know how it went.

Thanks.

Totally OTG. There is no messy wires coming over the hill. They stop a couple of k's down the road.
The place is not mine I am renting at the moment.
It's giving me plenty to think about for if I build along the same lines.

im continually suprised how much you can cram in those little boxes! looking good.

and you are right about my FIL, pretty much moved out there to hide. poor bastard had been dealing with chronic backpain most of his life from a motorbike accident and just felt he was worthless to everyone around him so went off bush to be alone with his plants and his dogs. made it really hard on my wife as his only child

It's a tight fit in there at the moment. Full flowering will be interesting as there could be some bigger plants in the mix.
Being new cabinets it's a bit of trail and error to see how much I can get away with.
I expect to settle down to 1 or 2 per cabinet for the full cycle.
At the moment they are in there for the night and out side for the sun.
I feel a quantum board would go down well in the nursery.

Sorry to hear about the FIL, life can suck at times.:smokeout:

Here we go update time.

I decided to cull a few non performers and off loaded a couple of photos, now we have room.
Both cabs are now running at 100w each. I found with the cobs they where stunting the pistil growth on the main cola so they got turned down to 100w, they seem to like the change.
Even the fluros in the grow cab where stunting growth so they got raised and the girls loved it.
The learning curve continues.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have touchdown.

Mexican airways has just landed.
Onboard is a dude packing 6 shooters standing guard over his gorilla glue while chowing down on cookies.

Happy days.:growing:

The kids have outgrown the nursery so they are now in the playground.

The main cab is coming along nicely.
The cob's have been slowly upped to 150w. I have been using pistil hair length to guide light strength. The tip of the main colas are 150mm above the cola tips of the canopy. So I run the light as hard as the plants allow me. I like to keep the pistil hairs on the main cola around 75% of the length of the pistil hairs on the main canopy. This strategy has allowed me to slowly increase light strength without burning the main colas.

Progressing nicely. A couple of days shy of 8 weeks @mephisto

The nute line up
Js7kAvi.jpg

My feed schedule is
Calimag 3ml/l
Epsom salts 3g/l
Koolbloom Upto .3g/l in full bloom
Powerfeed about a drop in a cup of adjusted water to perk up new seedlings
Gogo juice 4ml/l 2/3 times during grow as a pick me up

Yes the calimag and epsom doses are high but the plants are demanding it. When I amend my potting mix I amend heavily with lime, magnesium and calcium supplements but it is obviously not enough. It is a work in progress.
My water supply is rainwater stored in a concrete water tank. All I can think of is the concrete in the water tank upsets the mineral balance of the water.
