i disagree purely on the grounds that wattage is not what the plants want or need it's total lumens. 4 23 watts will push out about 6000 no problem. 4 27's will do about 7000. 4 40's will push 10k. on the youtube video for my bs240, it shows it in the demonstration at about 8000 lumens approx. thats a 240 watt black star we are talking about. not a 100 watt ebay UFO. I doubt that little 100 watt disc will put out more than 4000 lumens total. not to mention you have to keep them farther away from the canopy thus reducing overall PAR reaching your plants tops. if you can make it work with one thats awesome H.E. but, just keep in mind you are probably not looking as much light as your current CFL setup.
now, if you were to use 2 or so CFL's as supplemental you might be able to pull more total lumens than your current 4x23watt setup.

so basically your saying we who tried to help/improve our grows, reduce heat, save power and so on just through our money out the window. we all should buy as many cfl bulbs as we can pack into our small grow spaces running up the heat, risk fire. unless we can just fork out $700+ for a 500 watt+ led or more to try and get 10k+ lumens are you just trying to bring him down

ill stand by my little 135w led and the 100w led herbal is getting. i started in a pc case also, pushed it up to 6x 40w clf and got no where near what my led has done

I say put as many lumens in your space as you can so fit. Regardless of what it is... CFL, LED, HID, etc... and of course if you can control the heat! But, I can't imagine a UFO and a few CFLs would make it that hot in there... but what do I know... :group:
i can honestly say that i have no idea how much lumens the led has. i will be adding some cfls as well if the heat allows.
we shall see how the grows turn out -- should be enough power to grow like the cfl with a little improvement

I'm gonna agree with Reb, run some little CFLs in there.. some 13W ones.. 2 couldn't hurt that much and go from there...

I said 100W CFL in my last post, I meant LED obviously.. I was under the impression LEDs were supposed to be farther from the plant tops than that.. interesting! Speaking of experiments, I still want to give Mogul base LED's a shot and see if they can add anything to a tent, but $25-40 for a bulb that no one is "sure" about isn't a gamble I can take right now, haha.

Maybe I'm just stoned but I think the both of you are basically making the same argument...?? I think we are all agreeing that the most important thing here is Lumens... Granted running more than one plant with 4000 lumens will basically give you a "sample harvest" not maximum yield. But in my thought process if buying ONE lamp... especially a T5... I look for it to be a minimum of 5000 lumens. I don't run LEDs and are not versed in PAR so I can't speak of the comparison. But I do know what I see... I see tons of growers on AFN, growing with everything from a CFL to a 1000W MH/HPS and every LED in between and we all get great results... So I'm thinking as long as you are getting the MAX out of your lamp (especially with one plant, as in this case with a Micro PC grow) you will get the max out of your plant. Any and all supplemental lighting will always bring you better results as long as you control the heat.

not sure how much lumens this led puts out but the test (on the site) has the uf0 around 4k + lumens.
im thinking that this should atleast be around 4.5k +/-
only time will tell on how this badboy performs i guess.

quick notes:
- moved the case in a different (cooler) room allowing me to run 4 cfls @ 81-82 degrees high point
i have an inspection coming up randomly between monday - wednesday.
i will be forces to have the lights on @ 16/8 settings for those 3 days.
would that stress out the plant causing it to hermie if i then switch it back to 18/6 after all is done?
or
since its indica -- should i just keep it at 16/8 the rest of the way?
