New Grower 1st Grow Journal - Massive Midget and Candy Kush - Start May 29, 2015

Thinking they will be fully ready by late august-early sept. I've seen lot's of reports of AF taking a bit longer than quoted, so i'm allowing myself 90 days to see some results.[/QUOTE

You've heard right in my one years experience Mojo ;) Any plants that I've taken around the 70 day mark were definitely not ready.. it's taken me almost the first year to learn how to leave them til their done!! 90 days is about average for me.. there are guys on here who get their plants done in or around the 70 days.. those people make me jealous ;) good luck with the grow man.. i've never seen a Hempy bucket in my life :) very interested to see what it can do..

Looking good Mojo ! Great job not giving up on the M Midget. Hopefully it will push right through, un-phased - - - I don't see why it wouldn't ! Did u check in the infirmary and reference the thread with all the pics for self diagnosis ? I only ask because it can take a LONG time to find all the little features and threads and I didn't see it for awhile myself.

Hey T9! Thanks for checking in. Yup, posted up in the Infirmary thread and got some good advice and insight from Waira and GoAuto6 that it was likely a pH problem. At first i thought i had mites, looked through microscope but didn't see any. Thought i saw eggs but was told it was probably resin glands in action. Now the growth seems to be ok. I'm still battling the fracking pH issue and assume i will need to be vigilant about it throughout the grow. i found a thread on another site from like 2008 or 2009 and the guy was going through the EXACT same thing as me, and 5 pages later it was all pointing to a very alkaline Vermiculite and that Vermiculite can tend to buffer pH up. Learning a ton.

June 22nd:

Well, things are really picking up with the CK. Exploding now. MM is doing much better as well. The new growth seems to be clean. Node intervals on both are very good. pH issue generally under control.

The girls are all loving the sun and mid 80's temperatures where i am.

Keeping these on roughly 18/6 (outdoors, weather permitting from about 6am - 6pm and then under the lights indoors until midnight). If the weather is no good (too hot, too overcast, to windy or heavy rain) they are under the lights all day. I added 1 x 40W CFL 2700k per plant as well, so now i have 3 x 40 total per plant, 2 x 6500k and 1 x 2700k each.

Also, I realized the lamps I bought (gooseneck type spring adjustable), with adjustable splitters in each, won't be able to get high enough as these plants grow. So, I also bought 2 heavy duty 8" reflector clamp lamps with 12 foot cord and moved the splitters into those with 2 x 40W 6500K each, and then i put the single 40W 2700K bulbs as single into the goose neck lamps, which i can adjust around the plant as needed. As the plants get bigger, i'll add a second set of 2700K into the goosenecks to get light to the undercarriage. As these are in a window sill, I bought a twist style chin up bar that i can wedge into the widow box nicely. This also allows me to easily adjust how far away the main lights are from the plants.

And here is the inside set up. The wife was kind enough to sew some mylar onto a panel of old bed sheets. This hangs just inside the curtain reflecting into the window box. You'd never know anything was behind there if the lights are off.

And, a LOT of progress on my rogue Bag Seed. This lives outdoors full time. I estimate this to be at the beginning of week 7. Maybe a little older. It is just starting to push out stamens and pre flowers. Can't tell sex still! This was topped once above the 3rd node. It was LST'd about 10 days ago. Did a little lollipopping to remove some bottom useless bits. Also dealing with a pH issue on this as well as it's in hot soil (FFOF).

1/2 Strength nutes run through today with some light CalMag as well, re-pH'd 4-5 times. runoff now sitting nicely at 5.8-5.9.

The girls seem to be happy and doing well so i guess my perseverance is paying off. They are both growing a new set of leaves every 2 days now. It's unreal how fast they are blasting now. Both are well over the lip of the bucket. Hooooo-ah!

1 Month out!

i realized a small error on my day counts, these are now correct.

Candy Kush - Day 26 - Showing Pistils
Massive Midget - Day 21 - Showing Pistils

Overall, I think these are pretty healthy plants.
Been feeding every other day at 1/2 strength nutes (Fox Farm Big Bloom and Hydro Grow Big) Will start Bloom nutes (Tiger Bloom) at week 5. Also been going in with 1/4 strength Earth Juice CalMag with each feed. May stretch feed interval out to every 3 days.

Did some LST on Saturday and the girls are bouncing back. i also trimmed off the bottom set of leaves (the necrotic ones on the MM and the first full set off the Candy Kush). This really helped to open up the main stem to the light and allow the girls some more space to grow up.

I'll continue to LST and run the girls around the buckets as new leaf sets pop up (every one or two depending on the node interval).
