Indoor 1812 citizen COB grow

Also I’m probably going to thin out the fan leaves tomorrow. The cobs don’t penetrate as well as hid so it will help with bud development on the lower branches.

I know it’s been a while things have gotten super busy for me. I topped the JH and it’s grown vertically to like 6” tall. Idk what the heck is going on but it is a bush lol. The autos are getting fatter and starting to show signs of getting close to finishing. I will get some pics tomorrow or the next day. Sorry about being so long between updates.

AGAIN sorry for the long delay in updates. I had some company a few weeks ago and some other personal stuff going on. I cut down all the girls and got them dried up. I got a final weight of 120g from 5 plants. Not the best I've done but still not too bad. The light has some pros and cons and ill try to go over them as best as possible. If you have any other questions about the light let me know I will try my best to respond to them.Im going to be comparing the COB build to my 600w set up. Again thanks to @BigSm0 for the cobs and if you need anything ask him!!!

Cost:
COB- $500-$600 USD depending on build materials and what not.
HPS- Approx 400$ (Light, XXXL hood, and inline fan)
Wattage:
COB- about 370ish watts
HPS- 700ish (including fan, ballast)
Coverage: 4x4 area (1-10)
COB- 9
HPS- 7 (Central bulb creates hotspot)
Penetration: (inches)
COB-12"-16"
HPS- 18"-24"+
Heat Output: (1-10)
COB- 3-4
HPS- 8+ depending on ventilation
Flower production:
COB- 7
HPS- 9
Trichome production:
COB- 8.5
HPS- 8
Bud density:
COB- 6
HPS-8.5
Weight per plant ( My strain, personal best per light)
COB- 24g ( only one run 5 plants)
HPS- 36.75g (PB 16 plants,21oz :have multiple runs with this light)
Total wattage used (70 days 18/6)
COB:466.2 KW
HPS: 882 KW
Grams per Kilowatt:
COB: .25g
HPS: .66g

Just a disclaimer before i get flamed and what not. I probably only used 4 to 5 of the lights from my cob fixture. The other 3 were wasted light. that equals out to about 135w of light that wasnt being utilized. If I re do the math minus those lights id have about 235w of used light. That would be only 296 KW of power for the run and then G/KW would be around .40g.
Also this was my first run with this light. I didn't realize it wouldn't penetrate as deep into the canopy as a HPS, thus leaving me with lower bud that could have been discarded during the grow or trained plants into a scrog.
I feel that given the same amount of COB light in the same area (watt for watt) the COB would outperform the HPS hands down. My personal goal with this light was not to match the wattage but to get similar results using less wattage. Technically I did. This doesn't come in the form of light wattage though but power saved in other areas such as AC.Ive noticed a substantial decrease in total power consumption between the runs of both the lights ( about 50$+) which if i took that amount of power and duplicated my set up I could actually pull more weight with the same wattage. I also feel like a higher plant count and some better training I could easily surpass what a HPS can do.
If you want to talk about my numbers or anything just ask. I'm more than happy to answer any questions. MY OPINION: COBs are a moderately priced replacement to HPS lights that create above average flower/medicine without the heat output of traditional lighting while still giving flexibility to ones application needs.

So I feel like I could get more out of these lights so I’m going to try again. This grow is going to be 21 jock horror clones from my mother that I started during my last run. I’m going to run these under the COB light. Clones have some good roots and I just transferred them today to 1 gal pots in hydroton. Going to do a flood and drain set up. Plan on vegging until the first or maybe the week after which will be 2-3 weeks veg depending. I will also be flowering the mother with them. Let’s see what this thing will do!!

Quick update. I’ve been top watering the plants to make sure roots will grow down into the flood area. The flood area is about half way up the bucket they are in. I have the tray flooding every 4 hours when light is on. It takes 5 mins to fill and about the same to drain. I can tell they are liking the feed since most of the plants have new growth. We will see how it goes!

The girls are doing great! The cubes were drying out so I was too feeding every day. I ended up just making the flood time 1 min longer. Change of plans. I got neighbors around for 3 weeks when I thought they were only gonna be here for 1 week. So I might have to veg a little longer which is cool cause I wanted to top them to make them bushy. Any ways here’s so pics from a few days ago. They are much bigger now then in this pic.

Still veggin. I'm going to put a screen up to keep the canopy level. Hopefully they won't get too big in the next week. Plan to flip next weekend. Here is the growth in less than a week!

I got the screen up and all the girls under it. I think the light just doesn't have enough power unfortunately. The girls have some serious stretch to them. I got the reflectors coming and hopefully they will help level the lights out. I'll get pics when lights are on.

Looking freaking awsome bro, I'm upgrading my room too. I have 6 1812 and 3 1212. Cant wait to finally get them hung, the 1212s have blown me away so far. I can see how you can be disappointed when comparing to HPS but I think once the learning curve is done and you get consistent yields you will be more than happy.
